Topic: Legacy browsers (Kindle Paperwhite) now FULLY RUNNING E621?

Posted under General

Dunno if this only applies to me, but, as of now, e621 is correctly displaying post previews as well as actually allowing me to click on them and not being forced to use the "Random Post" button.

Is it possible the website was updated to work on legacy browsers? This e-reader already updated a while ago and it's apparently based on something like Android 3 (at least that's what some websites detect, may just be from this browser, even though the very limited OS this is running is based on Linux [like everything else these days].)

Have any changes taken effect lately? This is great news. I hope this means other old devices will run e621 with similar results.

I recently broke the site for iOS 9 and some older versions of desktop browsers which previously worked. Going from Vue 2 -> Vue 3 snuck in a few const statements in the js which those browser can't handle properly. It working on Kindles now might somehow be a side effect of that, but it wasn't intentional. I'm not going to invest time into making sure it keeps working on e-readers or other strange devices you can find a web browser on. Please don't try to browse e6 on your Nintendo Wii.

Basically, it might work now, but be prepared for it to break again in the future.

Holy shit I need to test this

Admin please (begging emoji) don't break it again !!!! It's the only device I own that handles slow Wi-Fi connections!!!! Like my neighbor's!!!! x3

Is there no way for you guys to give us legacy peeps some more support? Sorry that this sounds like begging, ugh, but Google Images just doesn't hit the same way e621.net does. (And I like my favorites list too much x3)

Ah, how I wish I knew how to code (or had the competence to do so). I daresay a legacy mode would be great.
But alas.

PS: if I had a Nintendo Wii, you better bet your sweet ass I'd do it.

edit: spelling+p.s.

did you just admit to stealing your neighbors wi-fi?

i uhh uhm uhm uh uh uhm uhhhh hh uhmmm uh uhh uh uhhh uhm uh uh um uhm ummm hh uhmmmm..... hhhhh
nice uploads, my guy.

I wonder if there's a way to write a small shim that would let the older things work, but it would have to be hosted. Tumblr, Twitter, and others, people have made interfaces that actually work and work fast (Twitter is a huge offender, here, even on my fast laptop). Older Kindles aren't Android, so can't run Wolf's Stash or the like. :(

And no, of course with nothing under the sun that supports WPA2 while supporting older Wifi standards that are easier to crack than an egg by default, are you going to steal Wifi from, unless you magically guess the passphrase or they expressly choose an older standard. Oh hi, Nintendo devices on WEP! (LOL)

I think that's why polyfill was for, with the shim, sorta-kinda, but not really. I think it only makes the appearance the same, right? Like, a less awful Flash/PDF.

1. You should move out of the basement so you can get better Wi-Fi or your own Internet connection. If you haven't started looking at porn at the public library, you haven't exhausted all options.
2. Or you could try different browsers on these other devices. Slow Wi-Fi should not prevent them from working, unless they have significantly worse reception than the Kindle.
3. Or you could find a way to export your favorites list onto the Kindle. Like an epub of thumbnails that open the browser directly to the posts when clicked. I don't know what's possible on the Paperwhite but you can make a project out of it.

You know what else hits different? Greyscale e-ink porn.

1) LOL!
2) LOL, if someone's actually using a Kindle with Silk.
3) Hmm...
And yeah, that would be hilarious if someone's actually using it for e-ink 16-'color' viewing of porn. DS with credit-card-sized screens are funny thought, too. Or a Nokia Banana. :D

Shut up.

...I only watch yiff anyways.

But this is more of a summer vacation place, where I'm at, and I can't just take my router with me.

update:brokem again :(

FYI, epub won't work on Kindle, only:
TXT
AZW3
PDF
MOBI
Calibre can convert stuff either way.
perhaps exporting a vertical powerpoint as a PDF?

How about using the unofficial mobile version of e621 at https://e621.us.to/? I can confirm that it worked over a 2G mobile connection on a button phone from 2009, the Nokia 2330. I needed to use that phone because my smartphone broke; I was happy it could do all the essential phone features in the interim.
