Topic: Furry Dating? Would you actually do that online?

Posted under General

One thing I always see on Furry sites such as this one and many others is advertisements about websites such as Furrymate or Furfling. I once saw furrymate on e621 a long while back, haven't seen it sense though. The reason I think is both were run by the same company and obvious ran by fakes using the "loneliness" of the singles as bait to get people signed up and requiring payment just to read a message.

As an experiment, I signed up on both sites as "RAmar" with real photos and even filled out my profile with legitimate information, but at the end I asked that anyone who actually read my profile were required to type "1776" in the subject line of any messages sent to me. Furfling banned me after 20 messages piled up unread because none of them had the numbers listed and they knew I was aware of the scam and I so obviously stated the reason for it. Furrymate still hasn't banned me, but I left out the pass phrase requirement. Figures right?

I often thought about making my own furry dating site or a combination of Furry and science fiction fans dating site from time to time. The hurdle I have is not with a dedicated host, I have that and a domain is cheap enough to link to it, my problem is the web development side of it. I currently use e107CMMS but I've seen more success using Wordpress. So yeah I've looked into it in great detail and now I'm just stuck trying to get the internal web stuff working or at least setup.

Currently I'm not using warzoneradio.com anymore, but I'd be willing to redesign the site and with a new domain, turn it into a "Free" furry dating site. I'll need a moderator team, a legal adviser and a case reviewer. The hosting costs money, I'll have to setup some sort of donate if you can system to keep it paid.

Anyways, that's what I've got so far. Who here is able to help and would you use it?

And yes I realize my real identity may be outed as a cause of this. I don't care.

I'm actually surprised that not a lot of dudes know about this

Tried it once and didn't like it. Never again.

I normally keep personal things private. Dating sites are a no go for me.

I'm a natural Skeptic about anything.

Update: After some further thinking and going over the host providers TOS, I'm going to need to think about how to keep folks Anonymous and of course need to make sure online content remains G rated.

What were the issues you experienced? I'm curious if they are something most have in common with those sites if any negative parts found on most can be avoided, I'd appreciate any input.

Basically those that you mentioned (only tried furfling): messages blocked until you payed for a premium account to read them, bot-generated messages (discovered a flaw that let you read other's messages and saw the same subjects as mine) and a lot of word blocking. By now the account has been cancelled...

May I ask for your extended assistance by creating a site to give alternatives to those scam sites? I'm not saying sign up to WZR, just help me pool some ideas, you can converse with me via private message.

Assistance? I don't have much experience on dating sites. That was the first one I tried and it left me a bad taste... :/

Well the only problem with making a "real" furry dating site is that you would have the guy-to-girl ratio of a prog rock concert.

I'm sure gay guys would do just fine though.

Really? The furry community seems surprisingly well-balanced to me.

Just peeking on a furry dating site and you'll notice that there's WAY more guys than girls on there

If christians can mingle, why cant furries?
I honestly don't see it as my thing. I don't want to be with someone specifically because they are furries. I have been on dating websites / apps before and it was dreadful, mostly because of how many people are on there solely for booty call or to jerk off to a girl her shows her tits a bit too much.
If it's your thing, then you should do it. Just don't get overly depressed if you don't find someone.

No one is saying they can't. Honestly imo, dating sites that single out groups of people is not a good idea. There's even a dating website for farmers only...

I tried dating sites and paying to see messages really sucks an that's the really important, and a working search engine would be nice

Haven't used a dating site, pretty sure I never will. Not meant to say dating sites or your ideas are bad, just that they're not for me.

As for me, I feel the same way Rayzr does. No point in pursuing furries in particular even though, obviously, I have nothing against them.

But trying to start relationships online just really isn't my thing.

Not after last time.

Or the time before that...

(I did not use a dating site, by the way)

You guys (I think all guys here), missed out on a perfect opportunity to help me build a nerd dating site that covered furry stuff as well as other nerdy shit. Throw a few advertisements on it to the service can be made free, hook up with a few companies where you can send flowers and candies with simple e-purchase through the site and bam, instant gold.

Don't you people have rent to pay?

Of course there will be some stuff to buy on my version of a dating site, but the actual search, matching and communication part will be totally free. The only filters will be profanity filters.

Profanity filters can be obtrusive, if they are automated. Gotta go real lightweight and whitelist a bunch of terms inbetween.
This site is mostly just people here for the art, not for companionship, but if you make it work, then good on ya. There are bound to be hundreds of people out there who would go for it.

AGB = Allgemeine Geschäftsbedingungen
or in english
GBT = general business terms

It´s very late here, forgot to use the english term for those ^^

That phrase has no power in the furry fandom.

I think a good site would attract individuals who are holding themselves back and don’t quite see themselves as “furry”, but are interested in meeting others who enjoy other aspects that exist in this type of community.

I have zero experience with dating sites, but I’ve wanted to try something out lately. My concern with any other legitimate dating site is that I feel out of place expressing my kinks and interests around our subject here. I visit this site quite often, I really enjoy the artwork and fantasy though I don’t consider myself a “furry”, and I would like to find others who fit the same profile.

My lack of dating experience really makes me a noob, which in turn could make someone like me a bit conservative, hypocritical, and in some kind of denial. If I’m not the only one that fits this profile, finding the right individual(s) could be mind-opening for someone like me.

Are you still thinking of doing this?

No, you're asking everyone else to do it for you. You said you'd provide a server and web address. Those are the two easiest things to do.

The hardest part is getting real people to use it and you haven't mentioned any plans for that. No one wants to be on a dating site with three members.

Ads aren't a magic source of income. You'll need an established site to hook up with real companies and they might not want to be associated with the furry community.

You can certainly create the site, but YOU will have to do the majority of the work and probably before anyone will help. At the very least you should have something to show before asking other people to help you. Ideas by themselves are worthless.
