Topic: Revive flash content with ruffle

Posted under General

This site has a lot of flash content that's now unable to be seen since adobe abandoned flash almost 2 years ago. So why now implement ruffle so all of that flash content can be enjoyed again? Newgrounds, homestarrunner, and even the New York Times use it so why not this site?

Having a note that mentions Ruffle when opening a Flash post here would be useful though

Though I think most flash porn/other shit is archived on flashpoint anyway, it still would be nice to have Ruffle on here. Would also be nice for mobile users, especially those running Android. As far as I'm aware the only browser that supported that was Puffin which last I heard began phasing it out after it went under two years ago.

I agree, rather than every individual putting something onto their computer themself, it'd be beneficial to the site and everyone as a whole if e621 just implimented a way to look at flashes again.
And everytime this issue gets brought up people are always asking how to re-look at the flashes because often times they cannot remember.

The site should save it's userbase the headache of answering such question and confusion over and over again. Not to mention that it seems lackluster to have content on the site that isn't even viewable.
Having the Priviledge and Admins point every user on the process to look at FLASH instead of fixing the problem themself just looks lazy from a consumer's POV.

Just host Docker images with entire OS and browser and file embedded. j/k
Although, to be fair, having a ready-made VM for running old software is pretty standard way to get around these issues. It's easiest solution in the long run because you don't really have to maintain it. It's highly unlikely that an update to the virtualization tool will kill the OS support, so you can even have security updates automatically installed to prevent VM escapes being an issue.

the thread that's linked in the notice for flash submission pages (https://e621.net/forum_topics/22535) leads to a dead download. that should REALLY be updated to at least mention the newgrounds flash player or ruffle. not everyone knows how to find these things (especially with google search increasingly censoring things like this that oppose corporations like adobe), and you guys'd be saving many people a lot of free time and energy by just updating the notice

you ever notice that using software goes a lot more smoothly when the software actually tells you how to fix issues (like an incompatible file) instead of leaving you on your own? i know *technically* people can just find these things by themselves, but i really don't see the benefit of leaving out such simple design aids
