Topic: New Version of HTH

Posted under Off Topic

~sigh~ So, new version of HTH came out yesterday(or the day before, I dunno) and um... ugh. How do you fuck up High Tail Hall? I mean really. All you have to do is make a room, put some girls in it and let the player fuck them. Now you might be asking yourself "How does one fuck up something so simple?" Well, how about instead of having two or three girls you instead have about thirty, and instead of putting them in 1-3 rooms, you spread them out over about ten different areas, making the setting feel oddly underpopulated, then make it so that less than half of the girls will so much as speak with the player and even less of them will actually have sex with the player. And then, just to really piss off the people that have been waiting four years for you to actually finish this thing, rush the hell out of it so that all the art and animation looks like complete garbage and render all the environments in full 3D using Minecraft. And then, just to top it all off, put in a featureless, black loading screen every time the player talks to a character or moves to a new area. ...okay, I've run out of words, feel free to lock this now, I just wanted to vent.

I'll say the same thing that I tell everyone who complains about game quality, porn or not.
If you don't like it, make one yourself that's better.
If you can't, then it's not so easy to make it better, now is it.

That's nonsense.

My spidey sense tells me this is some kind of logical fallacy

Here's your blue hat, go sit in a corner.

The "let's see you do better" argument? That's the best you can do?

The annoying thing about HTH2 {And bear in mind, this is his flash, he can do with it whatever the fuck he wants, doesn't make it good or bad} is that it'll get updated for a month, maybe 2, then go dark for 5-7 months, and when it comes back it'll get a whole new re-haul to everything, including the characters. Remember the "Super graphical grainy movie" style we had almost a year back? ANd then the block models 2 years before that? Yeah.

But... obviously.. in this case.. the OP is illustrating WHAT is wrong and HOW to make it better... these not not cases of "oh so many bugs" or "the anatomy is terrible"

this is pretty cut and dry.

All I'm saying is there's a reason that these problems are currently part of the game.
As a game designer you can't just wave a wand and make it perfect.
I can promise you that the designer either isn't doing it on purpose to aggravate people, or he is doing it on purpose because he thinks it makes the game better for one reason or another, in which case he is making it so he gets creative control.

I'll say the same thing that I tell everyone who uses the "let's see YOU do better" argument:

That's stupid. I can identify things that I like, and things that I don't like, and express my opinion without being able to do better. I can say that I thought that Manos: The Hands of Fate was shitty (but the MST3K was hilarious) without having to do better myself. I can say that the art in post #196289 is poorly made without being able to draw worth a damn myself. I can say that most fanfiction is terribly written without...okay, actually I can write better than most fanfic authors, but that's beside the point.

We can do better than the artists. It's just we're lazy :P

He doesn't have to wave a wand, but maybe if someone was standing behind him waving a golf club, he might put a little more effort into his work. If I could draw whatsoever, I wouldn't put crap online for people to see. I'd keep working on it until it was presentable. I can't say the same for my writing, I put that bullshit online for whatever reason.

tl;dr Crowchild adds a little bit and removes a shit ton in his 'updates'. I think he wants everything to be of the same quality

Test-Subject_217601 ranted: loading screen every time the player talks to a character or moves to a new area.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2006.

I'd rather have a small, well-made game than a massive, horrible one. Especially a massive, horrible game that's horrible BECAUSE of how massive it is.

He's created a massive game as a frame to fill.

That's great, except he keeps tearing the frame apart and making a new one every two months.

Yep, that sounds like a programmer to me :)
Never satisfied with it as is, has to keep trying to make it better.
End result in that type of situation is a lack of real progress.

Pffft! I'm waiting for pokehidden to finish his crappy game (as he calls it) I just look for the plot gameplay of a game. If it's a crappy game but it has nice gameplay I'll still play it, no matter wut

What if it has bad everything?
Besides, pokehidden's stuff actually has good animation and good, though simple, art.

Stop playing?
It's pretty much what I've done with H2H, until I see a "It's done!" message.

-You can't point out a problem unless you also know the solution
-If it's difficult for me, it's difficult for everybody
The second is especially failtastic in this case, since for the creator to improve it would be much easier than for a third party to do it better, since the latter would have to re-implement the entire program, while the original developer just has to tweak the existing code. (Unless HTH is open-source?)

There is an easy enough solution to getting him to focus on the game instead of the programming to the point that he improves the problems: give him money. Preferably with an ironclad contract attached to it that lets you insist on a satisfactory product or your money back – else your lawyer can legally do terrible, terrible things to the end of his digestive tract.

Otherwise, it sounds like he's not really interested in the game itself but the fun of programming something. If he was interested in the game itself, he wouldn't be junking it every few months so he can program it all over again. Believe it or not, for some people, programming is better than sex.

If you ask me, I think the first HTH is better than the updated version

That one has potential; I just wish that the hidden shower scene was completed. Jade Felicia Lanely, a female blue fox (incomplete full interaction. Right-clicking "play" on the character shows some of the intended interaction, before the sequence abruptly ends.) HTH 1.7 (pre-'fire')

It's sad but very true, the emotional release you get from a very difficult job done well, or a particularly tough problem solved, can be quite enjoyable.

Nerds still fap tho.
