Topic: Tag implication: shrew -> insectivore

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag implication #47245 shrew -> shrew_insectivore has been rejected.

Reason: shrews are insectivores just as mice are rodents or dogs are canines, and since 'canine' is automatically added to a post tagged with 'dog', 'insectivore' should be added to posts tagged with 'shrew' (and 'mole' and 'hedgehog' too, technically).

EDIT: The tag implication shrew -> shrew_insectivore (forum #347303) has been rejected by @bitWolfy.

Canine is a subfamily (caninae) that includes animals like dogs, wolves, and foxes. I don't think insectivore is a taxonomical rank

insectivora was a taxonomical class, but its now abandoned

True enough. Insectivora used to be a wastebasket taxon, where a number of similar species of various relations were dumped. However, they've been better sorted now into better grouped orders, of which Eulipotyphla is what remains of traditional Insectivora. The current implication chain of shrew —> eulipotyphlan —> mammal better reflects current taxonomic understanding.
