Topic: How do I file a report?

Posted under General

I haven't recieved many complaints from the admins about my reports, but even if I hadn't recieved any, this is still a good question to ask.
What is the proper conduct to use when reporting a post, image, or user? How should they be reported, both in good ways and in bad?

Mainly you just use the report option (under their forum post, comment or blip if it relates to something inside of one of those. Or you can use the user report option on the user's profile if it's more about the user in general or things like their tagging, their uploads, concerns about art theft or ban evasion, etc.)

One important distinction to make is that comment reports can be seen publicly (I think) because it's about something which is already public. But user reports are only visible to admins for privacy reasons.

When making a report, being clearer is always better. We get reports sometimes that only say things like "bad tagger" or "rude" and that's not all that helpful. Any time you can include at least one link to an example of what they're doing, and at least one specific (like a tag you think they're misusing, or a rule you think they're breaking, etc) the easier it is for an admin to get to the bottom of it quickly. Stuff that's more vague, unspecific or even just implies what the problem is are more like to have to wait until an admin has a much larger chunk of time available to go over everything the user has done in recent history.

And if it's a positive report, then mentioning that fact doesn't hurt. Though it's probably going to be fairly obvious since it's saying good stuff.

I can't think of anything else off of the top of my head, but those are most of the general things that help when users keep them in mind.

Yup. Even though the labels may not be as descriptive they can be used for both good and bad reports. Good in the sense of "oy, check this user, he's doing an awesome job" and bad as in "heya, this user isn't behaving well"

Explain why you're creating the ticket, give as much information as you can, be precise in descriptions and, if possible/needed, provide links to anything of interest.

Basically, look at the ticket, and then ask yourself if another person, who has no idea what you're talking about, would be able to understand what you created the ticket for.

Othet than that it's just technical stuff, don't report things older than a month, if it's older than a week do a quick check if maybe we slapped someone for the thing already, don't report stuff that looks like an honest mistake (for example, user uploads something, accidentally hits enter thus uploads without tags, you report him for not tagging it in less than a minute, while the guy is still trying to fix it himself).
