Topic: Disagreeing with two replacements

Posted under General

2 of the pictures I uploaded got replaced with the reason "Higher quality .jpg from Twitter". I wouldn't mind it if they really were higher quality versions, but neither of these replacements is higher quality.
Resolution of original and replacement is the same. Filesize is also the same. Both are jpg, no png.
The pics are literally identical. The replacement doesn't make any sense to me.

All that wouldn't bother me if it didn't affect my upload limit. One of the pics got replaced without any penalty, but the other did. If I had uploaded a lower quality version I would understand, but like I said: Identical. Both pics should be without penalty.

Pictures in question are https://e621.net/posts/3743097 and https://e621.net/posts/3744574

You can compare the ones you posted with the ones that replaced it here:

The images you posted were smaller in dimension as compared to the replacements. Hence, they were considered inferior.

I assume you tried to upload the FA versions. Clawstripe must have known the artist has Twitter, and replaced it before approving it, because the Image hash is not saved.
The first one is slightly bigger jpeg vs jpeg, similar compression, and sharper in appearance.

The other one is almost double the size jpeg vs jpeg. There is no doubt it is superior.

Poke Clawstripe, who replaced them, and ask what is up if you still have doubt it was a false replacement.

Edit: (doom you bitWolfy and Wolfgang, for typing faster)

For future reference, if the artist has multiple galleries, you should check all of them and acquire the best quality image possible to avoid penalties (see sites and sources ).

You're right. I've made a dumb mistake. When I looked what got replaced I saw Current Size And Replacement Size next to each other and didnt't realize they both refer to the same pic. For some reason I thought one referred to my upload and the other to the replacement.

Thanks to you and the other commenters for the fast reply.

I actually did that. I didn't find the picture in question on the artist's twitter account and only used the furaffinity one.
After I uploaded I scrolled a bit up and guess what I found? The picture I had just uploaded. Was already too late at that point.

I would assume I requested about 100 replacements for my own uploads, because of that, or similar reasons.
Here are some tools, you might like:

https://kheina.com/
https://saucenao.com/

But it doesn't work for all sites. Saucenao is the best one for most sites, in my opinion. But fluffle can find posts on Twitter sometimes.

The fun part about uploading another artist's work is that you get to learn their uploading schedule/behaviour.
Some like to post the artwork in the default resolution on FA (i.e., resized 1280x1280) and post the full resolution on Twitter, because they don't bother changing the submission file again for FA.
Some like to post early/solely on Twitter, and dump everything on FA when the month ends. Some others do a sneaky upload and post the full resolution on SoFurry just for the lolz.

At one point, you just realise that asking from the artist for the full resolution in the first place would save you a lot of back-and-forth comparing files between multiple galleries that may or may not be released at the same time or at a later date.

I had luck with that for maybe five artists, the others ghosted me or said, "just take the FA posts. It's probably the best quality anyway, lul", after I have asked them. I kinda lose the interest in asking them about full resolution files.
