Topic: Animating Existing posts

Posted under General

Hi guys!

Just to make this quick, I am pretty new to posting art here. I have been on e6 for a few years now, but havent really gotten into posting since fairly recently. So, I have a question for y'all, or a few for that matter.

Am I allowed to animate already existing posts? I dont mean redrawing already-made animations, I mean making animations from a source post that is just png or jpg.

Now, let me clarify. I dont support just taking someone's art and calling it your own, and I dont aim to do that by any means here. My question was to see if it is "original enough" to make my own interpretation of a post that already exists. Also, I should add that I would get all of my source posts from e6 ONLY and that I dont have any other use for it outside of e621.

Must I still reach out to the artist to see if I can use the post? What if the artist doesnt reply?

Thanks!

While not required, some artists have more or less tolerance for third-party edits so it can be polite to ask them. If they don't respond, you can still upload your edit, but you might be playing with fire. Some artists already have explicit instructions to not make edits of their work (e.g. drako1997).

Alr... good to know. I will definitely ask first. If I dont get a reply I will definitely look out for "do not replicate" type scenarios.
