The best way to avoid this is to immediately drop what you're doing and comment something quickly right when you suspect a thread is about to get locked, without asking yourself whether it's even a good comment. Just like this. *cue lock*

And most of the time it's people snitching on themselves. Like dawg, do they really need to tell everyone how much they don't like [insert oddly-specific topic here]? Sounds like projection to me.
