How to add avatar, people?

right below where the tags are on a post's page; there's a list of things under "Options" and one of those options is "set as avatar"

just click that button on the post you want to be your avatar and you should be set

As I understand it, I can't upload my avatar from my computer, right?

If you upload a cropped version of an image for the sole purpose of making it an avatar, it'll probably get deleted or replaced with a better version. If you want to find an avatar, try one of these:

• 1:1 (posts that are exactly square)
• ~bust_portrait ~headshot_portrait
• close-up
• Alternatively, here's a bunch of sets full of potential avatars.

Hmm, what a strange system. May I ask why I can't upload my avatar? Are there any good reasons for this?

All uploads on this site are posts. They can have tags that make it possible to blacklist avatars you don't like, and they must be subject to approval so that weirdos can't just upload low-effort avatars, real-life gore, etc.
From a previous topic where somebody suggested a system of uploading avatars separately:

This would make blacklisting inappropriate avatars impossible (even if users could supply tags for uploaded avatars, they frequently get tags wrong. See: female intersex solo.) It would also necessitate another set of moderation/approval tools for stuff like paysite content, illegal content, etc. Veto.

Okay, I get it. Standard shit. Trolls, weirdos, illegal content, and more. I understand. Well, then I'll be without an avatar. Because putting an erect sexual organ, mammary glands and other similar bullshit on the avatar is idiocy. But that's just my opinion. Thanks anyway for the clarification.
