I must have missed the memo somewhere. I've used this site for the longest time (before Arcturus gave it up), both on and off my account, and just today, I realized that now there is a limit on how many tags I can search at once.

When did this happen, and why?

I think it's entirely counter-intuitive for an image archiving system designed to store and search through hundreds of thousands of images. If I want to find something so specific I should be able to go straight to it right away.

I just don't think it's good practice, as it doesn't benefit the end-user. It's like if I want to browse a whole collection of something that a tag limit would do for me anyway, I'd just use less tags.

Why not just set the search limit on anonymous users, and make the tag search counts unlimited for users even with a basic membership profile? This would encourage people to become members, and it wouldn't choke off people who are members to have that kind of access.

It's had limits its entire life, but they're a lot better than they used to be. Originally, you could only search for four tags, but since then we raised the limit to six for normal users and eight for privileged+ users (numbers may be wrong, I don't have access to the config file to check...). The primary reason is server load, as more complex searches obviously require more work to process. While we'd love to have unlimited searches for everyone, the database may not agree with that.

That being said, however, I'll bring it up with the others and see if we can afford to raise the limit even further.

I'm happy that there's a possibility of the current limit being raised, though. There isn't a chance in hell that I'm ever gonna get an elevated account.

Speaking of extra perks, have you guys ever considered accepting money to help support the site in exchange for more site options or just accepting donations, period? I'm not suggesting giving unproven users more authority, just options like tag subscriptions or eight tag searches.

The only way I know the site gets money, is by advertising...

Buffing the priv+ limit to ten, and increasing the regular user limit to eight, would surely make it a lot easier to do certain tagging projects.

Slightly higher tag search limit as a donator perk would be cool.

Or, if there isn't a way to do this already, we could add a way to limit our search to a pool or a set. Kind of like searching your own favorites (fav:username).

I know being Priviledged would benefit with the tagging better.

When I make Priviledged, I'll see what I can do about adding gender tags to those that don't have it.

-male -female -intersex -ambiguous_gender :P - 4 tags, 5 if you include -zero_pictured (though I usually just leave that one in my blacklist for convenience)

Yeah, I've been meaning to go through intersex -herm -dickgirl -cuntboy too as people tend to forget to remove it when they change genders around. Unfortunately it's also easy to get sidetracked with bad tagging on that one. :|
