Topic: requirements to upgrade account/become janitor, on e621

what do i need to do ? im a active e621 member. maybe moderator, janitor , thingy

Janitors are usually already priv+ or we trust them enough to handle posts. No offense, but from looking at your account, you need to be more active to be Janitor

Updated by anonymous

Oh, you're far from achieving any elevated privileges, my friend.

Not by just being active, but also contributing to the site(posting/tagging) a lot, being friendly to everybody, be active in the forums and not break any of the rules.

I forget, what makes a Janitor different from Privileged and Contributor users?

Janitors can approve posts, and some other stuff.

How do I stand? At the rate I'm going, will I make Priviledged soon?

I did send an e-mail to NotMeNotYou last week, asking for a promotion. He replied back saying that it's possible, but that it has to be unanimous with the Admin staff.

Well, regardless, at the rate I'm choosing to go, I'll find myself suddenly promoted before I even know it. I just have to know what I'm doing.

From what I've seen since I've been here, asking to be promoted tends to work against one. Not saying that's a rule, but it certainly seems a trend.

Also, you shouldn't just be doing things in an attempt to be promoted. The people I see get promoted are the ones that are working hard to make the site better without caring what their privilege level is. They may occasionally make a comment about how something they are working on would be easier with higher privilege, but they make the comment as an observation rather than a request/demand.

Finally: What do you honestly want with a privileged account? There's really more responsibility than privilege that goes with the higher ranked accounts.

For me, I think it'd kinda be cool to have a different rank under my name, but the only advantages I'd really look forward to would be more search terms at once and having my uploads auto-approved. I've never run into a case where I've actually needed those features yet, so I ended up just shrugging my shoulders and going "Eh. If it happens, sweet, but I don't care."

I certainly wouldn't want the headache of being an admin - props to those that can thrive in that position.

If I don't ask for a promotion, then I'm being passive. If I'm being passive, then I'll be overlooked. If I'm being overlooked, I'm being invisible. And with the progress I've made so far, I'd hardly call that invisible.

I only made an account here at the beginning of 2015, and I've actually been visiting this site virtually every day for two years prior, simply downloading images that interest me and nothing else. I finally decided to make an account, to assist in where I see I should offer some assistance, to recommend or suggest what I feel needs recommending or suggesting.

I want an upgraded account because it'll reflect my hard work and it'll make my ongoing work easier. I'm not saying I deserve one. I'm simply requesting it and waiting for the Admins to decide if I'm worthy of a promotion or not. I sent one e-mail already as a request. They replied back by saying that they paid attention to me. They said that they added my request amongst a list of others, and I'm simply going to wait without nuancing them.

I'll never know unless I try. I asked, therefore I tried.

I've seldom stated this, but I want to have a shot at being Admin. Whether I actually do or do not matters not, but I like thinking about it to motivate myself.

That, alongside my ongoing drive to write fanfiction, and my budding hobby at art (which I hope I get good enough one day to post images here that I can recollect fondly of), are motivational reasons to continue.

I could've simply commented and favorite posts as I come across them, but I want to do more on this website. I already am, I know a handful of others that are choosing to do so for their own reasons, and perhaps I can motivate a soul or two to follow our footsteps.

Whoa! Don't ask and ye shall receive, apparently! :O

*Stares at shiny new Privileged tag*
*Stares for rest of the night*

That image reminds me that I've yet to play "Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut" on my Wii U.

Also, congratulations! You've been here since 2010. How were you not promoted sooner?!

Well, uh... people just don't get promoted all that often in general, from what I've seen. And I have honestly only been active like this for about a year (or could be two by now, I dunno =/ ), much like you only lurked until recently, I just happened to have an account where you didn't. Haven't really stood out for a long time at all, so you'll hear no blaming from me.

You're doing pretty well for yourself, all I can really advice you at this point is to keep it up, you'll be rewarded eventually. Usually out of nowhere, as Husky just demonstrated. Keep posting lots of nice art like you've been doing, though personally, I'd only do it at your current Mach-3 rate if you're sure it doesn't eventually come at the cost of quality (so never forget to tag and source well), or the quality of your outside life. I mean, no need to overexert yourself, keep that in mind. :3

And of course make useful tag edits whenever you feel it's needed. But it's obvious I don't need to tell you that.

What I do believe definitely helps with getting the staff's attention (something that tends to be underrated) is trying to be an okay guy besides racking up the visible numbers. You know, like by helping people out when they're struggling to find their way around the site, or by butting in on tag/wiki discussions every now and then. That's merely another way of helping the community and gets appreciated as much as frequent uploading.

Helping out with tagging projects is another good way to go about it. I've barely even done that, though.

Oh, and make sure to play Deus Ex dude, good little game without a doubt.

The most important thing on the winding and perilous journey towards promotion, is being able to comprehend the female brain.

(yes, this still counts if you, yourself, are female)

In short, you need to be right totally crackers.

+1 to this. You need to be completely insane. And as a woman, I still don't comprehend my own brain. Seriously.

I'd be more active in my janitor duties but yeah. RL. Teaching.

That's probably the most important thing, especially for those aspiring to become Admins. Be liked/likeable, or be agreeable/reasonable if not always likeable. That's not really attainable if someone has very little presence. How can someone be trusted to agreeably handle the occasional delicate issue as an admin if little is known about them? Demonstrate good judgement. The other stuff you mentioned (e.g., helping the site, being productive) is probably good enough for +1 positive account records and perhaps a bump up to Privileged to better enable industrious contributions. Even so, I don't see how "this person does a lot of tag edits but I don't know much else about them" makes for a strong recommendation for Admin status from current Admins.

It's funny how people ask this is every single forum I've been in. Here is the formula I've came up with common sense:

Do good stuff = Upgrade
Do bad stuff = Ban
Don't do stuff = Stay the same or downgrade to member

And congrats Jugofthat :)

Oh certainly, what I said goes double for those wanting to be admins. You really have to put in your A-game on the social side of things, and once you are one, continue to be that helpful (true, likeable isn't an immediate requirement as long as you aren't a dick) and most of all, be around a lot.

That's why I wouldn't want to be an admin, the responsibility that comes along with the title turns this whole thing into a bit of a job. Can't say I'm quite dedicated enough for that. Props to those who can manage it though!

Aww, thanks! Though it turns out I haven't been the only one yesterday to get a pat on the back:

- Queen Tyr'ahnee
- Mutisija
- Beartraps
- Nyteshade
- Finchmaster

Congrats to you guys/ladies as well!

Yeah, that's pretty much what I meant to say. For most of the rank-ups it's a matter of having a track-record of helpful behavior. From there it's just a matter of being noticed by the right people at the right time.

For an admin, it goes beyond just helpful behavior to being consistent. Someone isn't going to be made an admin if it's unclear whether they'll be around, reliable, and effective. I don't have the time to dedicate to that which is why I wouldn't want to be an admin. I'd always be trying to catch up with what I'd missed in my off time.

Congrats to you guys/ladies as well!

Thanks, and congrats to you too. Rather unexpected, but at least the next time I get the itch to go on a tag-fixing spree I don't have to worry about running into the wall of "X per hour."

Thanks for the advice. I tend to do things at my own pace anyway, when it's most convenient for me. Which is...just about everyday. I don't have much of a social life outside of this website, my personal hobbies, work, etc.

Speaking of socialism, I'm trying to be a bit more active in the Forum posts. One thing I've noticed is that I tend to shadow Parasprite, and occasionally support her (I'm assuming she...?) examples with other examples.

Another thing, I never did say thank you for that one bit of advice about flagging my own post, because it belonged to a DNP artist. Thanks for that.

Parasprite lives up to the name and appears to multiply to occupy any available space. Wherever you go, there will always be Parasprite.

Yeah, she was a Member. I was honestly considering reporting her to ask why the heck she lacked an elevated account, but then suddenly moderator. Incidentally, congratulations on remembering a week ago. Your powers of memory are truly awe inspiring :P
