I want to make my own African Wild Dog fursona but I don't know where to start with the pattern. I can't draw my own since I have 0 artistic ability and I want it to be kind of authentic to a real-life wild dog but that can be difficult considering no two ever look the exact same. How did y'all guys with a wild dog character come up with a pattern or create ones for your own, or what inspired you?

I dont have a wild doggo, but to figure a pattern for my ocs I usually go on pure trial an error.
And I think tying to design that on your own might be a good starting point for developing some artistic ability. If anything, at least you will be polishing your creativity in the character design subject.
You can also look up other furs and irl doggos to see and select specific bits of pattern you like, and mix them.
