I'm actually looking for a book with a story sort of similar to Stephen King's Under the Dome but far older and about a city surrounded by a fog and isolated in a ... different sort of way. I think a character in the book referred to the 'aliens' as reality-challenged. Major spoiler: The Sheriff finds his own grave and parallel realities are involved.
