Topic: Man the internet sucks sometimes

Posted under Off Topic

Y'all know the cheese grater image? Yeah, today I've seen worse. Ive been told by friends for years "don't look at the video" "it'll scar you for life" but i being the fool that i am did not listen. I can't even type down the name of the vid as 1. it (no joke) brings me so much pain and 2. I'm not sure wether or not the devs will ban me or something for it. For reference it involves a jar. That's all I'm gonna say. Nothing important just a meaningless rant about why now I hate the internet

oh, that's a classic.
it's kinda wild to me that there's still people today finding out about thse really old shock website videos and still being naïve enough to watch them. even after being explicitly told not to.

Humans are curious to a fault.

honestly this sort of way that people tend to talk about old shock vids, very vaguely and only saying that it's horrible and you shouldn't watch it, has always made me want to see it even more because i have literally 0 idea or expectation of what

don't get me wrong, i know that op is talking about jar man (censored for talking about something gross and unpleasant) the guy who shoved an empty jar up his as and had it shatter in his ass so he had to pick the glass out of his bleeding ass but that's just because i watched the whang vid on it, and even just the littlest bit of description can really help tame my curiosity

that's kinda what got me about wendigoon's vid on the disturbing movie iceberg; by level six he's just all like "ouuuu, sigh, i really don't want to talk about this, i dunno don't watch it" and that just gets my imagination roaring with whatever the hell something called "mr. hands" would look like. meanwhile when nyxfears gets to that level on her take on the disturbing movies iceberg, she has no qualms describing what a fucked up snuff film looks like, so then i snap out of it and go "oh, maybe i shouldn't be trying to dig up a film where a guy gets fucked in the ass by a horse and then dies that sounds damn near traumatizing"

Thought you were talking about the classic 2 Girls thing for a second. But yeah, from the description alone, that's enough for me to not look it up. I'm never that curious enough to search up shock/gore type of videos. To each their own I guess

Yup. Nothing like curiosity getting the better of you then instantly regretting it.

Asking myself "Do I really need to see [Insert horrifying crime/gore here] today?" has saved me a lot of mental pain in the past. There have been times I let my curiosity get the better of me though.

1 man 1 jar is one of the classics, the 00s was pretty much shock image era. The content really only gets worse from there, most of which I'm not even going to mention because I'm not sure if the site guidelines would let me discuss it.

The jar guy did make a sequel named "1 guy 1 screwdriver" though.

If we had a iceberg meme for this stuff, jar guy would be at the top.
I've seen some videos I wish I hadn't seen in my time online, but jar guy is like, baby's first shock video. Most of the stuff you'd find on sites like rotten(now defunct) is tip of the iceberg stuff, if not a little under it. The real shock videos are harder to find because they are too much even for trolls who post them.

That video doesn't exist. More so it exists, but has never been uploaded to the Internet. Only a hand full of people have seen it(law officials and maybe the farm owner? iirc he was a fence jumper.).There are videos before that, but not that specific incident. (I think the family has the only copy and for obvious reasons doesn't want to release it)

yeah sorry for that, i just rewatched whang's vid on that whole ordeal after writing that reply and at the end he made a case for the mr. hands vid that circulated around the internet not being the same as the one where his colon got ruptured

hell, even while writing that comment i had a stint in me saying that the part where he died was a rumor

Anyone else get an inkling that the numbers at the end of OP's username might be a reference to their age?

Welcome to the Internet. You want cute cats? Literally everywhere. Porn? I gotcha fam. Mental scarring? Hold on, it's in a file here somewhere.

I could tell you a lot of things.

Like how there's worse on e621.
Or youtube.
Or the news.
Or how I was exposed to gore sites by classmates.

I could even give movie recommendations like Caligula, but,
So much of what I could tell you would only be encouraging of and reinforce something that's already eating us alive.

And I hate nihilism.
AoBird kinda reminded me.

I'm aware of this argument that morality truly forms from "putting your hand on the stove" and reeling back to shout No, I Don't Accept This but I think it has it's limits.
You can only burn your hand so many times, and it's a lot more horrifying to suddenly realize you don't feel agony.

So, unironically,
I think I'd rather say your naivety is worth keeping intact.

Try to guard it a little more jealously.

You're not missing out by not engaging in horrible things.

Due to the nature of platforms like youtube,
There are screaming psychotics and bitter commentaries waiting behind every puppy and sports car.
Don't worry, you don't have to look, they'll find him.

Yeah oddly enough I learned something. Can't help but say that I somehow feel taller in a weird twisted way. In all seriousness, thanks man.

Holy shit I just got useful advice from a furry porn site

Life can sometimes be messy and things can turn pretty ugly pretty quickly.

By the time i watched the jar man video for the first time, i was already somewhat desensitized to this kind of thing, i have seen worse things. But i don't think being desensitized to this has made me a bad person. When i first watched the video, for the most part, i did not feel the repulsion most people feel when they see this kind of thing, but rather, worry about this person's physical and mental wellbeing. Among the first things i thought when the bad thing happened was "Is there a hospital nearby?", "Was any large blood vessel cut?", and "Is he alone?".

Watching this kind of content has different effects on different people, and i understand that.

Of course, burning yourself until you feel nothing is not a good thing, but handling rough things from time to time could help you if you ever find yourself in a situation that requires you to climb rock or a very rough rope. If you always avoid rough things, your hands will be too sensitive and the pain could quickly become unbearable, and even if you are able to tolerate the pain and make it all the way to the top, you would be seriously hurt and the wounds would likely take a long time to heal.

I like to introduce a little sabotage and contradiction into places, sometimes.

That's why I would still tell people that some movies, some videogames, a lot of history is still worth engaging.

But so much of what we have access to now is different.

It tells you not just to not climb but to not even look up.

Honestly after taking a good chunk of the past 2 days to really reflect on what I saw, I believe I must agree. This wasn't the first time I've seen shock images, of the ones I have seen, Jarman was probably the one that has gotten to me most. but damn, realizing that I was really looking up videos of people getting hurt and some dieing in such ways...
Really makes you think.

Honestly I don't think I can ever look at something like that happening to a human being ever again. What was seen wasn't some kind of urban legend created in Photoshop, or a mindless piece of code, a gorey movie done with masterful special effects, or an artwork created by an edgy artist. It was a real person talking pieces of glass out of his bleeding ass. Thank God he's alive, but he very easily could have not been. Fuck, he's just one of the guys that live to see the end of the video, because you're all right, it does get worse. It's a better rabbit hole not to go down. No one should be looking at those things just because they think it would be cool to see or because there's some thrill to it. That is a person. They were all people who had lives. Me not seeing that is a more terrifying and more horrible thought than watching all the gore in all the world.

And not many people will believe those warnings until they'll watch themselves.
I just got the first PC in middle 2000s, so I was on the 200X-201Xs internet when you can literally stumble upon most of the hardcore things just by the public search, without any common sense censoring, so I pretty much didn't even had the very idea that that stuff is can be just laying somewhere publicly in the first place. And man, I wish I have never seen those videos and gifs. Like, people doing something stupid for themselves is one thing, not really that "shocking" or anything, kinda just like kids falling and hurting themselves level(secondhand feeling for the heavy injuries are still there, but like no real feel of threats). But people doing something to other people or animals, when most of the time it is very nonconsensual, or straight up assault or murder - these things will just hunt your subconsciousness forever, not really "teaching" you anything or "hardening your skin". Moderate gore do, but not that one for sure. So yeah, it is very easy to overdose, and impossible to undone with any therapy. Some ignorance is bliss.
