Because the picture happened to fit in very well with my article on Delphox (and thus, my headcanon regarding Delphox). I removed the link because I wasn't sure whether that would qualify as advertising or not.

Someone subsequently inquired about the reference I made. And I'm not sure if linking the project now would be considered advertising.

I don't want to accidentally break the posting rules, so I figured I'd ask for clarification.

If I posted the link in my original comment, would it have been considered advertising? If I posted the link now in response to his question, would it be considered advertising?

I don't think your tumblr is advertising.

It's only advertising if you plan on making money with whatever you link.

So, you're fine to link to your tumblr.
