Topic: Vote system for Approvers/Admins

Posted under General

I've seen a lot of complains in the forum that their uploads were removed.

My idea is a "Vote System" for Admins and Approvers.

Example: I upload a new Image, and 2 or more need to approve the Image to become active.

Like if an admin or approver has a very very bad day and removes some images(i don't know if that already happend) then there is a new complain about the uploader that complains that the images was removed for unsuitable reason. Maybe the approver just didn't like the image and removed it.

(If You think WTF is he talking about, say thanks to my english)

That's just my idea, I think it would change a lot.

This pretty much already exists. If a mod deletes something and you think they should not have, contact the lead admin and it will be discussed among the committee.

Posts are approved slowly enough as it is

I wonder how many janitors, mods, and admins are active at any given time?

I do the mod queue in bulk but I'm not very fast at it yet.

It doesn't help that I tend to get distracted with tagging and pools. :/

This idea is sort of like the Public Queue at PixelJoint , I think? I'm not completely sure I understood your explanation, so I'll explain how PJ works and you can say whether it's similar:

  • People submit new works
  • Those newly submitted works are only visible to the submitter, except via the public queue interface
  • Public queue displays a list of works with two buttons 'yes' and 'no'
  • After enough 'yes' votes, it is accepted (leaves the queue and becomes a normal gallery item); After enough 'no' votes, it is rejected (marked 'requires revision' and is not visible to viewers)
  • How much a single vote counts for depends on account status.
  • You cannot vote or view public queue if you don't have an account.

This design works for PJ, though I do have to point out that e621 is an archive, while PJ is a gallery.

I don't really think we have enough admins / janitors here that such a system would work using just admins and janitors' votes. Allowing anyone with (positive feedback - negative feedback) > 0 to participate (vote weighted by exactly how much positive feedback they have), might result in an effective system.

That said, I don't know enough about how well the approval queue currently works to know whether it's worth bothering with something like that.

I suspect that marginal kinks would get a lot of downvotes. So that system likely wouldn't work here.

I really don't have a problem with how the system as a whole already stands:

  • If an item gets deleted and you think it shouldn't have been, petition the admins (privately please, don't need the forum clutter).
  • If something is approved and you think it shouldn't have been (and it doesn't meet any FFD options), then you can again contact admin (don't just choose random FFD reason - red bars aren't fun).

Given how...reactive some members can be about stuff they don't like personally, I really wouldn't look forward to a user-vote approval system here.
