Topic: [REJECTED] Orca Dolphin separation

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #6912 has been rejected.

remove implication orca (8217) -> oceanic_dolphin (11571)
remove implication oceanic_dolphin (11571) -> dolphin (12082)
create alias oceanic_dolphin (11571) -> cetacean (13797)

Reason: Something that I find incredibly frustrating is that ever since the change from dolphin to delphinoid several years ago, searching for dolphins will also bring up pictures of orcas. Unfortunately, not even the more recent change back to original tag fixed this problem. I know that a lot of the time we strive for accuracy on this site, and orcas technically are dolphins, but your standard bottlenose (what most people think of when hearing the word dolphin) and an orca look completely different and I don't think that searching for one should bring up results for the other. What's even worse is that if for some reason you don't want to see regular dolphins but you do want to see orcas you're shit out of luck, because "orca -dolphin" gets zero results due to how the tags are set up. There's also the problem of the current tag setup making finding images of orcas and dolphins much harder, but I think that's a lot less important than the tags being so fucked they can break your blacklist. Just because science considers them the same animal doesn't mean we should, especially if it makes the site harder to use. I don't know if I've scripted this correctly considering the tagging relationship between these two is an absolute clusterfuck and I still don't fully understand how transitives workbut the main purpose of this is to get this suggestion out, because it's been bugging me for literal years at this point.

I wanted to put "imply orca -> toothed_whale" in there as well, but errors prevented me from doing so.

Hate to tell you this, orcas are dolphins. This is the same issue as searching for any two species of shark.
Oceanic dolphins are distinct from freshwater dolphins, this is an important distinction to maintain, and this should not be aliased to the general cetacean tag. It may be aliased to a more appropriate scientific term, but not eradicated entirely.

Blocking Transitive Relationships (BTR) occur when the tag you're aliasing has pending/existing aliases or implications. The error blocks the BUR from passing.

"imply orca -> toothed_whale" is blocked as it is already implied through a series of implications
