Do you think this will be an issue like North Carolina? If so, then I certainly won't be here for a long while. I can't afford a professional VPN nor do I have the time to set up a free one that's good. Politicians really need to sort themselves out...

That's for the higher-ups in Bad Dragon and their lawyers to say. The staff of e621 are as ignorant of what's going to be done as you are.

would you rather relinquish your driver's license to a service that's going to store it with dubious security measures what which will quickly turn into a massive target for identity fraudsters as a result of storing such sensitive information?

And you just KNOW they'll not use any of the secure ways, because if they're intentionally insensible, it is obviously in bad faith. Also, lazy contractors and such yummy information to profit from. It's obviously a backdoor shakedown aimed at controlling adults and profiteering by friends.

I believe that both Brave and Opera have VPNs built in. You can also go with something like this for $2/month: https://hostus.us/openvz-vps.html Just make sure it's using private key to login and SSH/PuTTY to create a SOCKS 5 proxy. This is a slow machine but all you need for a simple encrypted proxy or VPN. There's tons of companies offering this, but showed one I've used. BuyVM is another one.

Annoyingly, with the AI and cryptocurrency craze, it's actually hard to find space to put new servers. :(

An alternative is to get a friend to run a proxy for you.

I wouldn't be posing this as a question if I wasn't ignorant, but thank you for the update. I hope nothing happens here!

Opera is seriously bad and so is the "VPN" they use, speaking from experience. Can't speak about Brave as I've never tried it, from what I know it has enough bloat to turn me off and regardless I don't feel like getting another browser just to proxy. If something goes down bad I'll try to run a proxy or even see if SixGrid will still work lol

As a fellow Texan, what exactly is bad about Opera's built-in VPN?

At what stage is this bill at from becoming signed into law by Greg?

Opera as a whole is at least partially owned by or has investment from tencent, which is a more-or-less corporate subsidiary of the CCP, who has a well established M.O. of using private enterprise as a silent, plausibly deniable extension of their government and their will to power.
It's easy to imagine that in spite of public opposition toward China that US agencies would still appreciate it's service as a data-broker on their own population, and that other countries would have the same relationship with Beijing.

I am making a gradual and slow migration to Vivaldi.

The bill was already signed in the middle of last year. They just can't enforce it right now until the lawsuit is done.

.....................................................i would very much like to imagine some au scenario where Texas secedes except instead of going like brexit that texit turns out to be a lot more teddy / franklin roosevelt instead of george bush jr and we work out our own collective neurosis and actually kinda end up a little socialist or with some benevolant form of communal support system that's not a tony blair kind of target / quota oriented nannystate because we still get to keep guns and talk mad shit,
we maintain a lot of that rugged cowboy individualism,
it's just that we remember quotations like "You can all go to hell" and "Corporation isn't a person because it has no behind to kick" and maybe put all that together to actually take the current welfare state for private for-profit institutions and turn that around into a ruthless and long overdue taxation on big, big, Big Business and make that taxation a pool of resource for social services that can help the disenfranchised individuals that actually require it.

.........

Oh yeah that and we don't let news cycles whip us into supposed moral panics that seek to betray our deeply missed tradition of us telling all outside influence to go fuck itself but in a confident-but-polite kind of softspoken way, that's the kinda Texas I wanna imagine.

Somewhere between Willie Nelson and Captain Harlock but with a little goofyhollar.wav & New Slaves' outro mixed in.

This forum is not the place for discussions around these kinds of topics. Kindly take them somewhere offsite.
