Topic: questions about censor-bar removal edits

Posted under General

i made a bunch of censor-bar removal edits (morally objectionable images, please don't burn me at the stake, i'm a lost cause)
just to be sure, this is allowed right? i can't help but notice there aren't many edits like this posted despite them being relatively easy to create
is there any risk of the original artist getting in trouble over this? iirc the censor is a japanese mandated thing
the rules say no "low quality" edits allowed, are my edits low quality?
is there some other issue i'm not seeing that could get my posts deleted?

(i didn't use ai btw, just gimp, a drawing tablet and some patience)
(i have 19 years of age, the 99 is a lie)
(yes that does mean i joined about 3 years earlier than i should but i didn't get caught and i'm an adult now so that seems like a dead end there)

Just in case you ever return, censorship removal is typically allowed (found under uncensored) but your edit must be of equivalent quality to the original.
However, you cannot not use AI to uncensor artwork nor credit yourself as an artist for the edit (only mentionable in the description).
The main reason why there isn't as much uncensor edits is because there is no incentive to do so, unless it is your passion.

As for the Japanese censorship laws, artwork is typically censored when it is hosted on Japanese websites or published in Japan.
Some Japanese artists do post uncensored artworks on non-Japan based websites while keeping their works censored locally.

An issue that might happen I guess is if an artist doesn't want their work to be edited/uncensored, so they may request takedowns if you touch their stuff.
IIRC there was also some discussion a long ago about a Japanese art website banning artists who posted uncensored versions of their artworks outside of the website, but I can't remember the website's name or whether or not it was a hoax.
