Topic: Possibility of race lore tags?

Posted under General

I stumbled on black_coded while browsing and it's definitely not fitting for a general tag, but I wonder if race-related lore tags for characters would be a good idea? I have definitely seen anthro characters that were clearly intended to read as black:

Though not all of the posts currently tagged black_coded should actually have such a lore tag, some of the tags seem like they weren't based on actual intent :P The lore tags would obviously only apply to characters that intentionally are meant to read as a certain race despite being anthro (typically I see this as a thing POC furries do with their fursonas).

Anyways, just something that I started wondering about the idea of because of stumbling on that tag.

I think ethnic/racial coding tags make sense, though I don't know if they should just be lore tags. (editing the wiki to list common visual elements might not be a bad option if we take that route.)

Chop Chop Master Onion's a karate instructor, MC King Kong Mushi is a Rastafarian, Guru Ant is probably Ethiopian, Prince Fleaswallow's Jamaican, and Joe Chin bleeds American exceptionalism.

I think general tags could definitely work, but they'd have to be clearly defined.

I dunno, I feel like it makes more sense to have character background stuff like this be kept as exclusively lore. I also don't think we really want to dip our toes into defining races under TWYS that seems like it could lead to some, y'know, not great places.

tagging traits and features is fine, but going beyond that seems like it could get a bit sketch.

I definitely see the validity in a tag or multiple tags like this, but if we start to list off specific traits, it might get a little... stereotypical.

That's basically my concern, that people will using it for (possibly negative) stereotypes, creating racist connotations for it.

Yeah, that's another thing I'm worried about and why I initially wanted to relegate it to lore.
