Do these outfits share any meaningfully similar aspects? Do they look like they are the same style?

How about these? Do these clear up anything?

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on Japanese fashion styles, but at least how onee_gyaru is used here it doesn't seem to be well defined in a useful way that distinguishes it.

I wouldn't tag the last one onee_gyaru, tbh. (Or the second to last, I think that was a misclick.) I would look up onee gyaru, it's a real-life fashion style: https://gyaru-109.fandom.com/wiki/Onee-Gyaru

Specifically it's a substyle of the very diverse gyaru style.

Fashion style distinctions are always a little blurry, and I'm sure some of the tags might be wrong, but the same can be said about... Most things. I'll try to expand the wiki more in a bit, I was just trying to make a simple one for now so it wasn't empty.

The example images also aren't the best, I was just trying to find ones that were rating:s for the time being, though the last one is the best.

These are better examples of the style I think:

It's hard to non-visually explain fashion styles but generally they're more of a combination of aspects rather than specific aspects all being shared in each outfit. Like, not all goth or lolita_(fashion) outfits share traits with each other, but they all have several of the signature traits of the style itself, if that makes sense.

I did look at examples of onee gyaru and honestly, a lot of the examples are subtle enough that it's hard to find what separates them from what Forever 21 sells. There's a lot of edge cases in fashion, but this specific style seems to be entirely edge cases.

I'm not against the tag existing, there's a handful of images like post #644708 that look clearly influenced by the style. Many others are just crop tops, short skirts, or lingerie.

Yeah, it's tricky. I'm gonna look through it here in a bit and try to refine it some more and add more to the wiki.

(Mainstream fashion has also become more influenced by alternative styles as of recent which also adds to the edge cases.)

Edit: I expanded the wiki, but tbh I'm not super attached to this tag and I think it's fine if we'd rather just get rid of it and leave the more clear-cut examples in just gyaru. Unlike the other gyaru substyles, it's way subtler and difficult to pinpoint. Tied up the taggings, too, in the meantime.
