I am not talking about the Blacklist / Tagging. I am well aware of the meme phrase "use your Blacklist" and I am plenty acquainted with how to use Tags to keep from seeing whatever content I may not appreciate seeing. What I am talking about specifically is the system in place that was implemented to keep people without accounts or people who aren't logged in from seeing "certain material."
Why is it ONLY that certain material, though.... and not any and all lewd lascivious content? It's just a curious question, so try not to take offense and start shooting at the messenger for delivering the mail. I'm not trying to light a hot match in a Fireworks Shop here. But... it's something which I find very perplexing.
Any person browsing this website who doesn't already have an account or who is not logged in can still see plenty of furry pornography, they just can't see the Cub pornography.
Any person browsing e621 without an account can go search for "Chip N' Dale - Male on Male" and easily find it. They can also find Tiny Toons porn, TaleSpin porn, DuckTales porn, etc etc etc.
Of course, nobody below the age of 30 would even go hunting for that stuff in the first place, but anybody can find it if they want to, just by searching for it. There's no "wall" blocking that stuff out for the "not logged in users."
And while not logged in or not having an account, clicking on "Posts" and checking the main page will fill the entire screen with plenty of porn.
Now I must ask an obvious question: If e621 is so concerned with keeping the Minus Eighteens who might stumble upon this here website from seeing material that is inappropriate for their age, why still keep the regular pornography in plain view completely unobstructed?
If the logic is "porn is destructive if you're not mature enough to see it" then why only put the NSFW Cub Artwork behind that wall? Don't both types have the same destructive capacity? Don't misunderstand me, I am not one of these silly stuck-up followers of John Harvey Kellogg who thinks that porn and self pleasure are the pinnacle of evil in our world. There are worse things in our world than people drawing porn of Scooby or Balto or Lion King or what have you...
I just want to ask why "The Wall" seems to be applied selectively, rather than completely, thoroughly, fully. The fact that it isn't -- seems to run counter to the concept that e621 "must keep all Minus Eighteens from seeing stuff they shouldn't." Especially considering the drama with the potential for a law that would force all porn hosting image boards to require Government Issue Identification from ALL users.
It got struck down, I think... (didn't it?). But I can kind of see their point, much as I really hate to agree with any kind of legislation like that which would chip away at what little privacy and freedom and anonymity we have left. Furry Artwork Websites have no real definitive fool-proof way to prevent people from seeing stuff they're not suppose to... and unless it becomes an absolutely constantly enforced rule that I.D. is checked at the door before you even get in, like this is a bar that serves alcoholic drinks, there is no consistent and reliable way to keep people who shouldn't even be drinking out of this establishment....
I know that a forum post like this one is certainly going to Ruffle Some Fur (pun most certainly intended), but I just wanted to point out a glaring inconsistency, a hole in the armor, a leak in the boat. But by even making a post like this one, I am definitely rocking it (the boat that is).
Oh well, I'll take my Negative Record or whatever, I guess. But if you read and re-read what I wrote here, you'll eventually see that I actually do in fact have a point. What's that old saying? "Don't execute the person who points out that the Emperor Has No Clothes" ... (a situation in which most people praise or seem to believe something that is false, because they are afraid to go against the general opinion out of a fear of receiving a swift punishment for pointing it out)....
I really tried my best NOT to be super inflammatory in this here post, but someone is bound to take offense where none was meant or intended, such is the nature of humanity... because we are emotional creatures who feel first and think later.
Meh....
All in all we're just a -- 'nother brick in The Wall.
