Topic: What defines a character as being young?

Posted under Off Topic

So with the ban of young human like characters this basically got rid of a number of the Luka on Ponies pool pictures which was maybe the most disappointing because in that Luka was being defined as young. This being Luka from the Monster Girl Quest games and well yeah. There are other pictures of Luka I might say he looks kind of young but because it doesn't have the young tag it doesn't get removed. This really leads me to the question of what exactly can define a character as young if their age is not explicitly stated anywhere? I mean another example Miles Prower almost never gets the young tag but don't make porn of him on fur affinity because they do define Miles as being young. Which it does lead to the whole point of questioning what can define a character as young? I feel like yeah there are features to look at but yeah there are times when a characters age is not clear. In fact I've even questioned Luka's age before and found there is a character saying he looks no more than 25 I think it was meaning Luka could be an adult in a legal sense but he just looks young. There are even rape scenes in that game where it's like his body might look big enough to be an adult. But the one thing I really want to know is how can we really define a character as young? Cause to me a number of these deletion could be reversed if we just get rid of the young tag and say yep this character is an adult. I mean it might not be the best but there are for real situations of the characters age is not explicitly known.

Lore information ('yep this guy is an adult') is not used. Proportions and facial features, especially in contrast to adult-looking characters in the same style, are what's used.

Yeah I even looked into it again turns out Luka's age is around 15 to 20 and yeah found out it was Alice who said he's not older than 21 and that was 10 years before his mom died and yeah there are a few things like he's basically old enough to go out on his own and hunt down monster girls so he is most likely seen as an adult in the games.

Whether a character is "seen as an adult" in their setting doesn't matter for tagging purposes, they just have to "look young", which is usually judged by looking at their proportions, stuff like head size in proportion to the rest of their body.

Canon age does not matter. Otherwise stuff like this would be "young"

I feel like canon age wouldn't matter in that situation considering that the tag aged_up is there. Meaning that the canon age is taken care of.

Canon age isn't taken into consideration because you can't see it in the picture and thus can't be tagged according to TWYS. There are teens who, despite being underage, can pass as adults. There are also adults who can pass as teens. The 5000-year-old loli is a thing. So is Benjamin Button.

The vast majority of us will not care about the canon age or the lore. Troublemakers and busybodies will care even less about canon ages or the lore. What matters is what the characters look like in that particular picture.

As said above, young people have different physical proportions and body development from adults. Tell-tale signs include: large heads compared to the body, flat chests with thin bodies, underdeveloped genitals, smaller sizes compared to other characters, and thin shoulders (for masculine looks) or thin hips (for feminine). Of course, as these characteristics can be used on characters that legitimately look adult, one can throw in a youthful ambiance as well. Sometimes, it's a judgement call, particularly when it comes to borderline cases.

If you've never seen people argue that "aging up" characters still counts as drawing underage porn I envy you.

I've seen people get uppity at canon-young characters being drawn in adult situations even if they're drawn aged up. Granted, a character that looks underage when they're not tend to get more heat than the reverse, but there are people that will complain about the opposite, that the intent was still to make porn of a young character and the artist/creator just visually aged them up as a way to justify it.

A good point. Troublemakers and busybodies don't care about logic as long as they can make things difficult for other people.

I think claiming an aged up character counting as drawing underage porn is silly. We're all – every single one of us – aged up children. By the complainers' logic, that makes us all pedophiles simply for being attracted to an adult.
