Topic: Happy Bisexual Awareness Week!

Posted under General

Hiya gang! I'm not bi myself, but according to Pornhub, it's Bisexual Awareness Week! To all the bisexuals on E6, when did you become bi & why'd you switch? What's it like being bi?
Don't forget to enjoy yourself; It's your week to shine! Have a great week everyone!

Had been experiencing what I now understand to be attraction to the same gender (in addition to the opposite gender) since I was a kid, but figured out what that was around age 16. Didn't really tell anyone besides my partner for a year or two though. Despite identifying as bi I still sort of had that little "oh, what if I'm just faking..." thought in the back of my mind until I actually had my first same-gender sexual experience earlier this year (age 21 at the time, now 22). After that I'm positive lol

Just so you know, sexual orientation isn't a choice, it is something innate about yourself. So it wasn't "becoming bi" or "switching", it was just discovering/realizing that attraction.
(And if you really do feel like you are choosing to be straight right now but could just as easily choose to be bi, well... maybe time to do some introspection lol, you may be bisexual)

Technically panromantic rather than bi, but I’ve known for a very long time that I was queer, I always liked girls. I thought I was a lesbian until freshman year of high school were I realized I liked both. I’m very lucky to have a very loving and understanding family, all my siblings are shades of queer, and my parents have been extremely accepting.

a-"awareness"?... is that really the word they use?

"Bisexual Awareness Week" feels like such an odd way to phrase a bisexual pride thing, it reads like: "Better watch out for those bisexuals, I've heard it's catching."... I dunno.

I don't have anything else to contribute here.

I'm Bisexual myself but I am rather confused, trying to look up whatever this "awareness" week means seems to just lead to nothing much at all besides "this happens on this week".

Are people not aware that we exist unless its this week? lol Hello world! we get to exist this week!

As for the question asked, to be honest I always liked both sides of the straight stuff that I used to watch/view here, it was only when I realised just how much I liked futa woman that I realised why. But I see it more as I am attracted to both, but as I want kids one day I stay romantically only interested in woman (though of course if I can accidently find one one day that has everything and can have kids then bonus)

It's more a reminder internally than externally. From experience, us bisexuals get treated like shit by the rest of the rainbow.

still feel like there's a better word than "awareness" to use, though. most National <X> Awarenesses are diseases and the like (breast cancer, HIV, human trafficking); the word's not got exactly the most positive connotation in this context.

Millions are diagnosed as bisexuals every year 😭 spread awareness
(I’m Millions)

Sometimes, it does feel like it.

Kinda sucks to be one, double the disappointment in dating life with not much bonus, it's good to have those types of things because some are closeted by being heterosexual or gay than having to deal with "tests" from both sides so this can help people being more comfortable of getting out.

I am one leaning to gay, well enough of me being a downer

I'd say the opposite, Bi peeps are very Rad!
Personalities, Preferences, and Priorities all blended into a natural
kaleidoscope of colors waiting to be explored! So much to discover
about yourself, So much light to be found so much potential that
can be seen with such liberated eyes that they're just born with, Dood!
╹‿╹)

Would love to ask a bi-peep how it feels but, I'm not
sure "how" to ask that question in a way where I could truly
understand the feeling. To truly know because I'm a bit
jealous of how true they are to themselves, Dood.
=‿=)

Bisexual. Such a Powerful word, Dood!

Love being bi. I never really found myself being solely into one gender at all- not straight nor gay at all my entire life. Thankfully I grew up with a parent who didn't particularly care about my perceived sexuality, and didn't enforce any sort of heteronormativity on me. So, in the end, I didn't "switch". I've just always been this way and was pretty aware of it.

Not having to worry about the strict restrictions of sexuality, or the social norms around it, is really cool. There's no "no homo" or "no hetero" for me. Everyone's pretty. There's so many beautiful men and women out there, I can't imagine what it'd be like missing out on half of that!

BUT being bisexual also means I get to connect with basically everyone on hot people regardless of anybody's sexuality. It's like, yeah I can see how you're into that. I can see that. It makes sense. I will totally use my powers as an artist for good and not to torment my friends with hot people made specifically for their tastes. lol

This. This entirely. Moonlit-Comet perfectly put why Bi-peeps can be some of the Raddest peeps you'd ever meet, Dood!

Not bisexual myself, but man this is in dire need. I do not have enough fingers to count the amount of times I had to introduce a bi man to the concept of bisexuality, and explain to him that him being attracted to women most of the time, and for men sometimes does not mean that he is now gay as in "experiencing exclusively attraction for men".

I'm Bi. I never really got why, just that I tend to be attracted to certain people, regardless of gender, but there's certain things that are turn offs for me. Like, for whatever reason, I never felt attraction to people who are in the middle of transitioning, but I am perfectly fine hanging out with such people on a platonic level. Hence why I call myself Bi rather than Pan.

I do remember one year when there was discussion of excluding Bi people from the local pride parade. The main argument was that Bi people haven't faced the challenges that a lot of other sexualities have, due to the fact that many Bi people could mask as straight. The one time I went, some of the drunk people were asking me to pick a side, even though that's absolutely not how it works. So I think the week is meant to fight against Bi erasure.

yeah, bi erasure and biphobia is alive and well, even in lgbt circles, which has never made sense to me.
I'm not straight because I'm married to a man, that does not change my sexuality.

Don't forget the classic stereotype that we just inherently cheat and want to fuck everything that moves without any standards.
... It's... actually weird that's a bi and not a pan stereotype, to be honest.

I'm pan technically, but have had the slut stereotype applied to me by jackasses.
it's extra funny because I've only ever even kissed two separate people in my entire life lmao

I'll never understand the toxic, like "purity testing"-type mentality some people have. more interested in pushing people out of any community they're in than building the community up. they get off on it or something.

bi erasure from LGBT members always seemed extra bizarre, though. "Acceptance. Unless you're with with a member of the opposite sex, in which case you should be shunned."

... Pick a side? Yeesh living in Australia I feel like I miss out on a lot. What do they want it to be just LGT groups? Hah so they are only fine with accepting Bisexuals if they are with the same sex but if you are with the opposite then suddenly its taboo to be what you are. Where's the love who you want tolerance and acceptance there?

That sounds like such a sucky thing for someone whose say just gone through a divorce after being with someone of the same sex for years, met someone else but then suddenly all the groups they are in shun them because their new partner is a different sex. The groups that are supposed to support them.

Then again, obviously I can't speak from experience being an Australian as no one has ever cared really that I am bi, working in an office with a gay boss and straight co-workers who got along as if none of this mattered as we all worked together, though my boss does say I remind him of his partner and I took that as a compliment

The amount of times I've had to specifically spell out "I've had a boyfriend in the past" to feel like I'm at all "qualified" to talk about any LGBT topics. I can't just say "I'm bi" and be done with it, if I do, people take me about as seriously as if I said "some of my best friends are gay" or something.

EDIT: For the record, the reason it's "in the past" is because me and my ex-boyfriend just kinda drifted apart. We're still close friends.

I just gotta say, I'm learning an awful lot from this thread.
I legitimately had no idea about all this, what with the discrimination to Bi people & the general hate from the rest of the LGBTQ community! Be this ignorance from a queer man, I kinda thought you all just got along together somewhat alright. It seems like being Bi is a very tough thing to be, I had no clue you all had it this rough!
Maybe Bi Awareness Week isn't a week to celebrate being Bi, but a week to make the rest of the world aware about Bisexual people & their hardships...

I'm not this kind of individual is actually all that common, it's just a few vocal jerks; and it's certainly not the kind of behavior that's very accepted by the majority.

negative experiences are, after all, more memorable than positive ones. in addition, these're the kinds of experiences that make the most compelling stories, so they tend to get passed around.

In addition to this, vocal jerks just so happen to often be attracted to positions of power, and some some of them ended up in places where they had the potential to try and change things. For the most part, the actual communities tend to reverse these decisions in quick order when it does happen, and I don't think any Bi ban has lasted more than a single event.

Yeah, a lot of the issues I find as an American stem from the fact that LGBT has become politicized, and pride folks trying to carve out their niche in a world that's still very hostile to them despite how far we've come. Corporations certainly don't help either, since many of them tend to engage in so-called tokenism and demographic box-checking as a form of customer and shareholder appeasement. But, luckily, as dba afish said, the individuals who engage in this aren't that common, they're just very visible when they do.

That's kind of the thing about sexuality, you don't really "become" one thing you just kind of are. It's like asking someone why they "turned" gay

Funny bi fact: I used to think everyone was attracted to both genders and picked a side at some point. No one told me liking both was not the norm lmao

To be completely honest, I still don't fully believe that most folks aren't even a little bit attracted to to people of all genders.
It just seems odd to me, just like how it would be odd if someone was attracted exclusively to blondes.

maybe? from everything I've heard and read this is probably true for the majority, but also sexual orientation on the individual level, like anything to do with the psychological, can be weird.

and I know that fully static sexuality isn't the case for absolutely everyone because, at the very least, I know that it's not the case for me. there was a point in the past where, on a personal level, I saw myself as "straight"* (or at least, like, "90% straight"; everything is a spectrum), and I do not consider that to be true about my current self.

*or I guess looking back, the word I'd use to describe my past self now would be, like, "monosexual"; I can fairly confidently say I've been non-binary the whole time, even if I hadn't fully come to the decision to apply that lable to myself until more recently.

The human brain works in weird ways. If a guy is attracted exclusively to rich women buying wonderbread who are destroying the environment--

I think it’s good that every group has a Month for themselves to reflect on their own self and their community it is always a good way to find more acceptance and showing tolerance. That’s why I think this Month means a lot to me. 💖 💜 💙 Happy Bi Week and Month. post #4413710
