Topic: Tag question: flash, GIF, animated

Posted under General

... Short version: flash is an accepted tag, whereas gif aliases to animated. What's up with that? o_O

[edit] Sorry, guess this should go under tags/wiki -- forgot that forum categories had been added.

dunno, but it should be un-aliased, because not all GIF's are animated.
(I know that 99.9% of all gifs made today are animated, because artists use PNG for lossless compression of non-animated pics)

I'm pretty sure it was aliased to animated because the usage of the gif tag was exactly the same as the usage of the animated tag.
That, and why would you ever tag an image's filetype? Would you ever tag an image as png? No? Exactly.

Yeah, the only reason someone would search for "gif" is if they're looking for animations.

One major thing with gifs are that gifs can be seen on a mobile device, while flashes cannot.
But if you would like to see the gifs on your search, you cannot just take out the -animated unless you use just like -type:swf or something...

I assume you have an iPhone based upon this comment. Flash displays just fine on my Galaxy S3.

You'll need to download the apk. Doesn't come with stock Android.

Well, Flash is no longer supported for 4.0. Android, you could try it, but no one can tell you if it will work.
it also is no longer availabe on the play store, you could however download someplace else, like the following link.

(It is a german site, simply click "Zum Download" and then download till you have it, maybe keep an eye out for "Falls der Download nicht beginnt, klicken Sie bitte hier." and click "klicken sie bitte hier")

http://www.chip.de/downloads/Adobe-Flash-Player-Android-App_47084648.html

APK-Version is 11.1.115.63, if you wish to download it somewhere else.

Well, I have an app (photon) that lets me play flash vidyas and games and such which is cool, but I doubt a lot of people actually have it...

Gif has been aliased to animated for referring to animated posts that don't require flash. Even though not all gifs are animated you can still use type:gif to search for the file type

I don't understand why anyone would search for a gif that's not animated, and I can play a flash (probably only one) on my android devour just fine.
