Topic: Excruciating pain

So, I apparently have a kidney stone.
It decided to wait until 4 in the morning, while I was a sleep to move.
Now I can't go back to sleep.

So since I'm up.
Anyone have any experience with kidney stones?
According to the WP, 12% of Americans get one at some point in their life.
And of those, most get another within 5 years of the first.

My father has a large one. He's in constant agony and he can't get it removed because of some shit.

It sucks. Good luck

Are you going to have it removed? Sometimes that can be even worse.

Step one: Get a doctor.
Step two: Follow the instructions of the doctor
Step three: ????
Step four: Profit.

Besides that, look at what you eat and drink, kidney stones only start to get created if the urine in your kidneys are supersaturated of something, meaning you either drink/eat to much of a mineral (only softdrinks, too much milk, too much meat, too much salted snacks,...) or you don't drink enough.
Urine also shouldn't stagnate in the kidneys, make sure empty your bladder regularly and rather often than seldom.

However, all I can do is poking in the dark, the doctor can tell you better what type of mineral(s) are causing problems and then you should change your diet accordingly, the biggest change you can do however to at least stop it from growing is to drink more, preferably boring tap water.

Doctor =/= profit.
doctor = debt.

I am trying to pass it myself.
That's what a doctor will tell you to do anyway unless it's particularly large, since it's preferable to any invasive procedures.

Sometimes they can pulverize them from the outside with sonic waves.

That is what you get for living in a back ass country.
But joking aside, a urine and blood test can determine what type of kidney it is, what caused it and then help remedy it, some kidney stones can be dissolved by drinking something specific over the course of a week or month or so. It can also help determine what you should change to either prevent it from getting bigger or to prevent more/ new ones.

But hey, do what you want, they didn't spend years of their life to study these things just to tell you to shut the fuck up and get out of their office.

True, but it's hard for you to tell how large it is, and you might have to end up going to the doctor anyway if you can't pass it.

Limit your soda/alcohol intake to basically none, drink lots of water/apple juice and you might piss it out, also if try and get whatever is closest to morphine that you can purchase over the counter because passing it is going to hurt like a bitch.

I'm drinking tons of lemonade and orange juice.
The citric acid is supposed to help break it down.
Definitely no soda, and no caffeine either.

I'm taking ibuprofen currently, it helps with the pain, and any swelling that might make it harder.
If I really need it, my dad said he could get me hydrocodone, but I want to avoid that if at all possible, since it can potentially be addictive.

The worst is I can't use my preferred antacids anymore, and I have acid reflux.
I usually use baking soda, but it's high in sodium which is really ad for stones, and tums is my 2nd choice, but it's a calcium supplement which is also a big no-no for avoiding stones.
Edit: After a bit of research, the only common commercial antacid that doesn't contain either calcium, or sodium in some form is Pepto-bismol.
I haven't ever used it, but I might give it a try.

Well, I wish you luck and a speedy recovery.

I remember my fifth grade teacher had some time off because he had a kidney stone. He described it as feeling like a razor blade going through his penis.

Have fun with that.

On the bright side, he could make some wicked thrashcore based around the idea of urinating a razor.

Think of it this way...It's kinda like you are giving birth...
It's like a life miracle involving excruciating pain giving birth to a rock out of your peehole...
It's so beautiful...
