Topic: captchas for commenting

Posted under General

In 4chan's very overpopulated image boards, the administrative team or staff decided to place captchas to prevent flooding or unenthusiastic commenting. I think this would be an excellent step towards improving the quality of the site, which, I have noticed, has been on a steady low lately. Sarcasm and negativity has run rampant for years.

If this has been suggested already or if it's an unwanted idea, then I apologize for wasting your time!

Personally, I doubt that snarky comments will disappear just because captchas are added to comment.
There should be captchas for everything, every page load needs to be verified by captcha, uploads require two just to be sure, one captcha for every comment one wishes to view.

Sarcasm aside, that idea is worthless, it will piss off everyone on this site and since snarky comments require at least some basic brain activity it is to be doubted that it will keep me, and others, from making snarky comments.

I have, however, absolutely no idea how you can say that captchas helped against the shitposting on 4chan.
Sure, the automated shitposting done by spammers is a fraction of what it was before but the 'quality' of people using 4chan and their comments improved like the quality of the overall televison programs over past years.

Pretty much what he said. Captchas won't stop anyone who wants to be snarky or troll from doing so, and I don't think we have a bot problem here to weed out.

can you refer to specific examples of comments that you are seeking captcha to get rid of?

The difference being that 4chan posts are anonymous by default, and that 4chan is extremely popular and overwhelmed with bots, 12-year-olds and spammers.

I haven't posted on 4chan since captchas have been implemented and I doubt I ever will. Injecting my opinion into a surging stream of horseshit just isn't worth the time.

4chan introduced captchas to prevent automated shitposting. They do absolutely nothing to improve the quality of posts by humans.

Just because it would take an extra 5 seconds dose not mean it will stop people from posting. this is the most idiotic forum post i have ever see on any site.
