Topic: New Species Discovered, After 30 Years: Olinguito

Posted under General

Yep. Is the olinguito, or little olingo. It was just discovered in August, 15 of 2013, by the Smithsonian Institute. It roams the misty mountains of Ecuador and parts of South America.

Really, it looks like a mix between a raccoon, a tree otter, and a bear.

For more information (and perhaps, pictures of his cuteness), look it up on the official websites of ABC, NBC, CNN, CBS, BBC, or the Internet.

My reaction was: "First the red panda, now an olinguito? I gotta see this for myself. *Looks up for an 'olinguito'* Good Jesus! It looks cute."

Now it's just a question of how long before someone makes a furry character of it, and commissions olinguito porn.

It's the smallest member of the raccoon family.
And they already were seen, the genius scientists just didn't realize that they weren't olingo, but a seperate, but similar species.

Oh. They already did. Only four images in FA, and one of the is a porn character named Ollie.

I've heard about that.

"Olinguito" sounds like some sort of Hispanic or Italian main dish.
Linguine with olinguito sauce sounds great right about now.

So, basically it sounds cute and delicious, at the same time. Talk about good traits.

The olinguito (Bassaricyon neblina) is an interesting discovery. It's the first carnivorous mammal to be described in over 30 years, although we've technically known of their existence for ages and haven't noticed they're actually different from the other animals we mistook them for. This shows that we really don't know as much as the animal world as we think we do, and for a long time yet we're going to be describing new species.

What about mermaids? People say that they exist. The evidence looks valid/credible.

I saw it on Discovery before they did that thing during Shark Week, so it must be true.

That auction is over now. Winning price? $300.00. I shit you not.

I don't have an FA account so I'm going to assume that the auction was for the character's design only, which is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard in my entire life ever

He could have spent that money on something worthwhile like alcohol but nooo gotta have my imaginary character rights so I can sue anyone that looks kind of like me

whodda fook spends $300 on a pre-made design that has no use but show? I mean, you could buy a pre-made home and live on it. But... but... GAAAAH!!

To be fair, the auction-er offered a full ref sheet if the price got "high enough" and I assume that $300 is high enough.
So he gets a bit more than just the design.

But, yeah, $300 is stupid, particularly since it being a new animal makes it really easy to just make your own.
