But what if it's temperature-wise?

Oh come the fuck on: There's thorough tagging, and then there's completely anal-retentive. If you -really- must, just do "hot_(weather)" or something.

Is invalid_tag even a valid tag? I mean, if it appears on a picture, what should we do, delete it? What is the purpose of the invalid tag?

If you see it, something is amiss in the tagging. Look for a bad or subjective tag. Removing it will remove the invalid_tag tag

No, from when I've tagged in the past, if I put an invalid tag, that tag is simply gone, and invalid_tag is there in its place, which gets removed in batches by some admin command.
It's not an ideal system, because whenever it happens, whatever the original person was trying to convey with that tag is lost. It would make much more sense to instead give an error when trying to use an invalid tag instead of it quietly ignoring what you said so you often don't even notice.

Worse, you don't know which tag was the invalid one so you can't figure out what to avoid next time, much less what you need to correct.

Because every Joe Random Tagger who comes to the site will 1) notice it even changed anything to invalid_tag when it gives no message at all, 2) intuit they need to find some sort of list, and 3) actually find that list. Right?

You got a point. Maybe the admins should update the http://e621.net/help/tags with some words on invalid_tag or maybe we could just redirect them to invalid_tags wiki, if they act confused in the comments/blips/forum.

I still have yet to see it explained, why it doesn't just give an error and prevent the upload. If it's just an issue of site programming, then cool, I'm sure it'll come eventually. But if it's a deliberate choice? I don't effin' get it.

I think if a tag from the invalid_tag list prevented an upload, there would be a bigger chance that upload wouldn't get uploaded.

Right? In all the few years I've been here, I didn't even know there was a list. The few times it happened with me, I just had to try to deduce what I'd previously tagged using only a hazy memory and guesswork.
Perhaps there needs to be something that says, "Sorry, but XXXX is an invalid_tag ." The problem would be in making it obvious. Perhaps the user is taken back to the editing thingy instead of to the basic picture with comments?

Why wasn't this alias approved? This tag is mostly used as "OMG this is so hot!!!1", and for temperature based things heat tag would probably be also good.

I'm absolutely not approving this alias. I might alias it to heat but as it stands it's the opposite of cold and a valid tag for temperature. I don't think it's overboard to tag heat waves on a summer day or someone sweating in the sun

Aliasing hot to heat might be good. I don't know that we really need both heat and hot to cover a heated temperature, do we?

An alias to heat, or hot_(temperature) might be best.
Leaving it as just "hot" seems likely to cause problems.

Hot=opinion(unless the tag is changed to hot_(temperature))
Or if the post being tagged is clearly of something hot(temperature wise),
such as magma, the sun ect.

Ok 99% of the images tagged with hot are just dudes with their dicks out. Even if we alias it to heat or whatever we're just going to have a bunch of random images with heat or hot_(temperature) slapped onto them. Invalid_tag is the best option. If heat is an obvious element of the image, we can use heatwaves.

actually i went through images with "hot" in them. there was a lot less than 99% especially after i took care of it. also when hot was made an invalid tag, about 50 or so images popped up when i searched invalid_tag on my daily murdering spree
