Topic: Becoming a Brony

Posted under Off Topic

Yeah i didn't see this coming. I heard how some people liked the show but i never thought i would watch it well i was wrong. I got bored one day and decided to watch one episode to see how it was well one became two then three now i'm already on Season 2 in less than a week and i'm almost done watching all of season 2. I'm here thinking how did i get so attached so fast. Well since i becoming a new brony i wouldn't mind some tips from some fellow bronies.

Do what you want..

But there is no becoming a brony. Talking horses are under the list of furry even if you want to rename it as something else or add a tattoo to them. Its just a show, nothing life changing now.

All you really are is a person who enjoys talking furry horses with tramp stamp tattoos. Nothing more, nothing less.

Depends on who you ask. I actually do view it that way. But if it's life-changing/affirming/etc for someone else, then who am I to argue? More power to them, I suppose.

My only advice is to look at, read, and watch the things you like. Ignore the things you don't. And to have a good time. Don't get too worried about the details. I don't think there are any rules, any "right" or "wrong" way to being a brony or furry. Just try a bunch of different things to see what sticks. Browse around, see what you like. Then have a lot of fun. =)

Don't become a brony.

Don't watch the show.

Don't look at the images.

Don't look at the bronies' comments on the images.

Run.

Can we stop treating "brony" like some kind of demented religion? Brony, Trekkie, Whoovian, yada yada fuck, just stop it. Like what you like, do what you want, and stop trying to absorb yourself into artificial social substrata out of some absurd attempt to "fit in" like you're back in high school trying to be with the cool kids.

Oh you don't dare insult Celestianism! nah, just kidding, I don't take stuff too seriously

I'm a brony, or not, depending on how you see it (no, not directly at my faves). I like the show and the characters, but that's just it. Nope, there's no more! Nothing, nada. Also, [pony name here] is not my girlfriend, I'm not that kind of person.

season 3 was like… uh… yeah "uh". It ended quite fast and did'nt gave a reason as to why Twilight was turned into an alicorn other than being Celestia's student :I /ramble

And those furry weirdos, what's up with that nonsense?

The first rule of becoming a brony is that you don't talk about being a brony.
The second rule is that now that you like something you do not have to go full derp because of it, enjoy what you enjoy, stay away from the fandom if you think they are a bunch of dumbs or be all up in the fandom if that is your thing.

Just don't shove it into the faces of others all the time, people like different things, the things you enjoy may make the person next to you want to vomit, so try to not become a westboro baptist "brony".

Just because you like the show doesn't mean you have to become a brony. Just like the show. Gluing labels onto yourself just so you'll fit into one of the most undesirable subcultures to ever exist is just setting yourself up for pointless hardships.

Like 95% of bronies are just trying to "absorb themselves" in the ponies to "fit in" to the group of outcasts and neckbeards that live in their basement. Go to basically any con that has a pony panel, and you'll see what I mean. The only reason that the "brony culture" exists is because it goes against the grain of society. This is not new, you are not special (well most bronies probably are), bronies are no different than hipsters, x-geners, punks, goths, and other "non-conformists" who "resist" conformity by conforming into a group of non conformists....
I understand "do what you want" hell, I watch the show, but there is no feasible reason to offer for any sort of actual purpose that the "culture" has other than infect the internet.
Ippiki was right when he was talking about gluing labels to yourself, by wearing the name tag of a culture with a reputation that has no chance of being saved, don't expect for everyone to like it at all.
On the topic of religion, brony culture is not a religion, its become a cult, you have become so focused on these pastel ponies that you are willing to spend vast amounts of money for pony related items and knick knacks. You are willing to shut other people out of your life for these ponies, and you will go around trying to "convert" people to your brony cult.

1. Don't flaunt your bronyness (?)
Keep things like this to yourself in real life. If you want to get involved do it on the Internet.

2.if you are a bad artist dont contribute.
NO MORE BAD ART PLEASE!

3. Do not let shit bother you.
Haters gonna hate with a raging boner of pure disgust and rage. Just ignore it. :)

That's about it so good luck!

But the definition of a Brony is someone who likes the show.

Same way a Whovian is a fan of Dr. Who.

Same way a orange-eater is someone who eats oranges.

Labels literally mean nothing but a definition.

Anyhow, tips:

1) Do not use the pony maker.

2) Do NOT use the pony maker.

3) Only mention the show or your being a Brony if it's applicable to the conversation. This goes for all fandoms.

4) It's just a show. It should be treated as such.

5) Remember that it's a show for little girls. Most of the content will be silly, and 90% of criticism is well deserved, but we don't give a shit because it's a neat show.

6) DO NOT USE THE PONY MAKER.

This is a song that has been sung many times. I think most of us start out like this; didn't think we'd like it but bored out of our skulls, or want to be able to make fun of it by referencing actual content, either way we end up watching it, and one episode becomes twenty-one episodes. You're not the first.

As for "tips", I'd say:

      • Don't call yourself a brony unless you're only in the company of other bronies.
      • Feel free to comment about MLP on MLP pictures, and feel free to actually geek out on MLP websites, but try to think about other people. *** On a website like this, MLP pics are an acceptable place to talk about MLP, but not to use "words" like "everypony" when you should be saying "everyone". Talk about the picture, don't act like you're in the show. People who don't mind the show but hate the brony community are likely to see this stuff and you don't want to piss them off.
      • On the other hand, if you're in a website entirely centering around ponies like Equestria Daily or BronySquare then it might be acceptable to be that geeky and immersed in it. Go nuts and be exactly what the brony-haters hate. At least there they don't have to see it.
      • DO NOT mention ponies in the comments of things not pony related. I'd suggest following this tip even if you're talking to someone about their pony avatar. Odds are if it's not pony related art you're in the comments of, then there will be people who've blacklisted ponies who come across it. They will not want to have to deal with you talking about something they have blacklisted on a picture of a subject they have not.

Seeing that you are only ending season 2, the best tip I can give you:

Do not expect season 3 to be great.

Bronies will love season three till their dying breath because they want to love everything pony. MLP watchers/enthusiasts seem to have jumped ship saying: "Well, that was cool, but I am done".

I would watch the rest of the show and look at the fandom before "becoming" a brony.

Were you being intentionally ironic? Because this quotation is EXACTLY what I see coming out of the "brony community". Not 100% of it, obviously, but a huge amount of it. Every single point on that list, I see, even just coming out of freaking Reddit.

Yes, there most definitely is a live and thriving cult of "brony" that is growing by the day, and it's fucking ridiculous.

Lets make him watch Equestria Girls. If he likes it then it's too late for him - he need to be disposed for his own good.

What a darling little dichotomy you've made there. It must be great living in a black and white world.

I, personally, possess the capability of enjoying MLP without being completely obsessed over it (no matter what my e621 favorites say).

Maybe I have super-powers.

Oh wow, I thought you were defending it at first, based on your initial post, so I replied as such.
Also for the reddit thing, I have never used, nor intend on using reddit anymore than I would facebook/twitter/Instagram/other bullshit. So I don't know exactly where you are getting what your accusations of "ripping off reddit" or whatever but isn't it basically one big forum? Wouldn't that allow for lots of different ideas and opinions to form, is it not possible for separate individuals to draw a similar conclusion?

My first message you think is defending the "brony cult", and the second message you take it as an accusation of somehow ripping off reddit?

I...I don't even...

Do you actually speak English, or are your responses the work of an in-development conversation bot?

I'm quite confused as to how this became some sort of hostile confrontation, and yes I speak English...

You aren't until you have:

  • made an OC
  • formed an opionion about whether Nyx from Past Sins is Mary Sue
    • tip: it doesn't matter if you ever actually read or listened to Past Sins
  • watched Dusk's Dawn

>implying there is a set way to join a fandumb
>implying OC's are important (they are terrible)
Why is everything here fanfiction?
When did watching the show not be enough?

I wouldn't do it, nothing good will come of it.

You want tips? Watch the show and like it. Getting involved in the community couldn't hurt. Also you must read "Cupcakes" at least once as Rite of Passage.
