Been on e621 for a bit, but never bothered with wanting to add an avatar pic... now that I do... I've realized that I haven't an idea on where to go on my account to do so =^_^=
Can someone help? o.O

Easy now. Set as avatar. Last one under Options on left. =^.^=

Just find an image you want, click it, scroll down and look to the bottom left until you see "Set as avatar"

Another silly question... when I type in the name of a recipient to send a message, hit send after the message is done, I get the error message "to can't be blank,"
What gives with that?

Is a space somewhere in the to: field?

Nope... I put in the name, no spaces, and it suddenly vanishes and I get that error.

Hm, as you may see, I just send you one, does the name you wish to send a mail to contain spaces? For example, I wanted to send a mail to "Shiela Stradling" and I got your error, after putting in "Shiela_Stradling" it worked fine.

No... it didn't contain spaces, though I think I came to the realization that artists and users aren't one in the same all the time. If people are posting pics from artists that aren't members here, and simply crediting the artist's name, then I may be getting that error because I'm trying to send a PM to an artist that isn't a member here.

Haha, yeah; Artists are just tags unless you see them in the comments or posted by sections, generally. :)

Could be that the name you're trying to send to does not exist as an user.
Check the artist index (also located at the top bar), on the "Is this user" column to know which artist is registered here (and by which name goes by).
If you want to contact the person who uploaded the post, check in the "Statistics" section, click the name of the user (in "Posted: [time ago] by [user name]", you'll be taken to that user's profile), then "Send message" at the top of the page and proceed as normal!

Seeing how I uploaded a snap shot of my AV from Second Life to use for avatar here, and the "love" people have for SL (to which I don't get why some pics are approved and some aren't) yeah... it quickly became an [x]
And it wasn't some generic furry either. I spent plenty of time making my neko girl just how I wanted her to look.

Screenshots of video games for the purpose of being icons are not normally approved....

Yeah, sometimes, screen caps (or tiny images for the sole purpose of being avatars) are not allowed (with some exceptions ) because they're considered as having as little to no effort in making (generators included). imo
Just try again (with another image, of course) and cross your finngers.
Or you can use one of the (over 376682) available posts as your avatar.

Well, I would recommend making the screenshot nature less obvious, eg. cranking up those Graphicfilters like Antialiasing, Shadows, HDR and what have you to maximum to make it look more refined.
Also, you could try smoothing it out even more with photoshop, if you know you way around it.
And for the decision behind it, this is generally an art site, not a "post your SL avatar here"-site, as such you'll have to make it visible that the picture you're trying to upload is "art" done by yourself or somebody else, and not just a quick screencap.
