Huh. I never really thought about why it would or would not be the case, but it's been that way for priv+ only for at least as long as I've been a member. The only argument I have to keep it that way is "gotta have something to differentiate the member levels," but that's a lame-ass and exceptionally weak one.

As far as I'm concerned, it seems like a decent idea to make it available to all member levels. Do any admins know the reasoning behind this decision originally? The upvotes don't "stack," so there's not really a way for this to be abused.

Imo, I think it's a privilege....for privileged+

I remember once I faved a post and it got upvoted... so that might be an occasional bug. Because, to my knowledge, there's nothing updated besides swhitching the +Favorite button

It also allows priv+ to double vote for pics if they want.

But... couldn't the alt accounts just upvote normally? Why would not adding this feature prevent people from scumming upvotes?

We could also ensure that normal users don't upvote twice by just counting the favorite as a vote. If someone tries to fave, unfave, and then fave again, it would still just be one upvote.

It's been stated that it's so that there isn't upvote vandalism by people favouriting and upvoting to give images inflated upvote status. ....I don't get the rationale of it either, myself. Why not have +fav give +1 upvote, and lock manual upvotes to privledged? Then again, how relevant are votes to anything beyond sorting by vote count?

Last time manual votes were privileged only everything had a score of 2 and order:score was useless

I have no wish to favourite every thing I want to upvote. Favourites are for favourites. Upvotes means I just like a pic

everything had a score of 2 because there wasn't anything else adding to that functionality. If you like something enough that you want to favourite it, then it's good enough to vote up. If it's good but not THAT good, get a priv+ account to make that distinction, is what I'm saying it should be.

As a general rule, if people want to upvote something, they tend to do so manually. Yes, there are a lot of pics that we both upvote and favorite. With that said, we have to remember that what's true for my account or yours may not be true for other people.
Some art I favorite as a way of bookmarking (for example.... Some art is favorited by people because they fap to it, but isn't upvoted because the quality does not merit a higher score. When I search by order of score or favcount, I do it for a reason. A change like this would mess that up.

Why not have auto-upvote be an exclusive privileged feature? Vice versa would be pulling a Google Plus Youtube Comments-type change on everyone. I'm bringing this up for fear of the off chance that admins might read some of these posts and get bad ideas.
For some accounts, auto-upvote would be convenient. I wonder how difficult it would be to implement as an added feature that can be turned on or off (with off as the default setting).

I think favorite and upvote should be grouped in one. In rule34.paheal.net there is no favorite option for example, yet one can favorite pictures using the upvote feature, that could be later recovered using "upvoted_by:lizardite" (or the like)

I honestly don't know why they're divorced systems at all myself, either.

We're definitely never removing the ability for members to manually vote on images.

+1. "upvote" doesn't mean, "I say, this is a delightful piece of artwork that is destined for the history books, my good chap!" but "this is good" with good being a nebulous definition thatt also encompasses so bad it's awesome and the like. If you want to share it, it should be good enough for an upvote. If you laugh your ass off for it, it should be good enough for an upvote. Even if it lands in the so bad it's terrible grouping and it's just THAT bad and you MUST share the trainwreck with other people just to spread the misery, that still falls under the aegis of so bad it's good even if it's for malicious reasoning.

I think part of the contention here is that different people use upvotes and favorites differently. For example I rarely ever upvote anything. I don't see the point. To me, upvotes are meaningless and so I don't intentionally contribute to them. I favorite essentially anything I might want to see again, because it's super hot, it's hilarious, a really well-drawn pic, or maybe it strongly inspires some other emotion. But I wouldn't be sad if my favorites didn't upvote.

It doesn't seem like it's a huge issue, honestly. I can't honestly see how much would change if Members' favorites autoupvoted. On the flipside, what's the big fuss about it not happening? It's one more click.
