The posts though I'll admit I don't really like, mostly because of how big the watermarks are. It seems unnecessary to have them like tat when I don't think anyone is going to do anything with them. I'd love to buy one but they don't have any I particularly love

I know the Fluttershy waifu pillow case was about 75 dollars at Brony Con last year. I can spend my money on better things.

Yeah, I think the watermarks are just ridiculous. I don't think anybody would take a 250*750 preview and print them onto a dakimura (or however the fuck that's even spelt) themselves.

You know, we had someone who took the 250px preview, upscaled them to 35,000 pixels and uploaded them to be used for printing.

I do not know why he didn't just pick a missigno picture and put that on dakimakura.

Also, dakimakura-dakimakura, or beer/bacon/pizza-dakimakuras would be really neat joke gifts.

I wonder if they've done a cost benefit analysis of this. Were they really losing so much revenue to shitty pixellated counterfeits made from preview images that it's worth pissing off everyone with obnoxious watermarks and censoring? I doubt it.

I'm not entirely sure how I blacklist this, though. I don't want to blacklist dakimakura or advertisement, because there are many pictures under those tags that I like. I don't want to blacklist the user because he may upload uncensored versions, which are bueno.

I could try dakimakra advertisement user:furrydakimakura annoying_watermark, but what if more pictures are added with watermarks that are less annoying?

Artists can censor and watermark how they want, it's their stuff. I'm just saying this situation is treating everyone like criminals for a few bad apples.

2 things I'd like to point out, to be fair (and keep in mind, I haven't bought any).
1. Some are $50.
2. Those are fairly typical(even cheap ) prices for dakimakura (anime ones from japan, if they're not bootleg).

They're more pricey than I'm likely to buy, but it's a way for artists to make money, and that's not a bad thing.

I'm not saying the prices are different then normal or anything nor that its a bad idea to do these as an artist. Just that removing the originals and uploading the advertisement watermarked one is punishing everyone for a few bad people.

I don't even have a huge attachment to most of the pics for these (I did some tagging on all of them so I saw them pretty well), just the idea behind it.

People have been complaining about advertisements for these things but hell this is the perfect place to show them. I know if I was living alone I might get some of the MLP just because they look really good! Unfortunately I live with other people -_- and I'll get judged for having a naked pony on my pillow.

I think it's silly how much those are being slapped with downvotes, in my opinion. I love alone, and I seriously would get one (if I had money). I wouldn't fuck it or whatever you're supposed to do with them. I would just have it for novelty purposes, because I think some of them are pretty fucking cool.

It's because of the obnoxious watermark and some of the artists featured are not the most liked...like attitude-wise.

The watermarks were added because users from Derpibooru, Tumblr, and other various imageboard websites were pirating the preview copy of the pillow design, and using it to make their own pillow cases of the designs we have made. Potential customers were complaining about not being able to see everything before they buy it, so we tried being lenient and posting it uncensored for those that were interested in purchasing.

And, obviously that didn't work. So we had to take more drastic measures. We apologize that the watermarks are so obnoxious, but given the circumstances, it was either the watermark, or mosaic censoring like we've had been doing.

If people weren't stealing the pillow designs the artists working under FurryDakimakura have made, we wouldn't have to use watermarks in the first place. I guess we were naive in that line of thinking.

It was either watermark, or back to mosaic like we have been doing. However, that decision was not up to me, ultimately, I feel indifferent about using either or. When we make pillow designs for the website, and someone buys, the artists get a percentage of that sale. So..when we have people stealing our pillow designs, that's money that we won't be making, and going to someone else.

The watermark is definitely better, you can actually see what's in the image, much better for a shopper.

There's no question obnoxious watermarks deter theft, the question is whether the cost is worth it. The cost is all the fed up and annoyed potential buyers, all the people blacklisting your advertisements or calling for them to be removed from e621, all the people choosing not to reblog your tumblr posts because they're unpleasant to look at.

That's a lot of exposure and goodwill you're giving up. You have to ask yourself if you're willing to sacrifice all that just to prevent a tiny number of crappy bootlegs.

You underestimate the bootleg dakimakura market.
It is a huge bussiness in China, making millions per year (anime ones to be fair, but they'll steal from anywhere they can make money.)

On top of that, this isn't a matter of of artwork reposting, or other non-damaging theft.
This is taking real money out of the pockets of the manufacturer, and the artists.

Yar. They have a very real need to protect their income, no doubt about it. Just, with how blurry the images are thanks to the watermark (made worse with the mosaic as well), I can't really tell the quality; Makes it really hard to justify spending money on them. :/

If they were persuing a case, that sort of information should be available to the authorities/their legal aid, I would think? May take a bit of digging, but protecting your IP by taking down the people commiting the crime rather than making those innocent be treated as if they are guilty themselves seems like the better idea to me.

I understand that it's to protect business but perhaps having the originals and no watermark would get a more positive light and more advertisement, and would compensate for the images being stolen. They are going to be stolen regardless, as a quick google search just brought them up, but I can see it being hard either way
