Topic: Lego Movie: Yes or No?

Posted under Off Topic

My first thoughts watching the trailers were that it was going to suck, but I've been hearing nothing but good thing about it. I don't know if I should see it, so I thought "why not turn to the always reliable folks on the e621 forum". Thinking about it now, I think this will be a mistake. So yeah, yes or no?

I haven't seen it yet, myself. As far as I've heard, it's worth seeing.

So, I haven't seen this movie, but I have noticed a few things about it going around the net!
One, is that the trailers are actually pretty funny. Very self-aware humour, but also lots of pop culture references. I feel like this movie will age quite badly. Two, although everyone everywhere seems to say this is awesome, I've yet to see any actual reviews of it. In fact, most of the hype being built up are around the promos, the songs and (getting to the point) the marketing. Now, I'm not saying this means the movie *won't* be good, but unless your source is a real person who's actually seen the film, take the hype with a pinch of salt.
I have no beef at all with seeing kids movies. I've seen some films which I honestly expected to not even raise an eyebrow at, but actually made it pretty high on my list of favourites. I'll be seeing this for sure.

Frozen. So know what you mean regarding that movie.

I wouldn't necessarily rely on professional reviews, though.

I saw frozen it was good don't ask why I just tend to have a childish mind dont you all judge me! >:(

but I'd watch a lego pony movie

Why would I want to watch something made for kids?

I'd watch it if I was with my nephews because they love that shit. They can watch that, I'll just watch porn or something on my tablet.

So no.

Same logic on why grown adults watch MLP. Didn't see the movie but judging by the trailers, it looks nice and humorous in my opinion. Just because we're grown doesn't mean we can't bring out our inner kid when appropriate.

Some kids' movies contain innuendo that will go over the little shits' heads, but adults will understand it.

Updated by anonymous

I'll likely watch it, since Criticker.com predicts that I like it.

I hate the romantic subplots that are shoehorned in almost every Hollywood movie. Kids' movies are an exception, so I usually find those at least tolerable to watch.

And I'm definitely intrigued by the user reviews:

How could a feature-length advertisement for a kiddie toy turn out to be both an endlessly smart and subversive satire of consumerist conformity and a self-aware mockery of popular Hollywood tropes?

I expected a good, well put-together movie, similar to Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. I did not expect to get Toy Story mixed with Brazil.

...I think I'm adding it on my must-watch list.

YES YOUR CORRECT ABSOLUTLELY 100% CORRECT!

i'm suprised no one has mentioned that its why I still watch kids movies, to see how much dirty jokes are in there

After years of only hearing "eh" nyu" "gwa" from these characters, and my brain trying to distinguish why certain elements of the lego universe are not made from lego, I am not at all interested in this

This is obviously true, but I always feel like it's skipping the point a bit. I mean, it takes more to entertain adults than just a dirty joke (otherwise you just end up with this bullshit)
Take for example Rise of the Guardians. I honestly didn't think I'd like this movie. It looked like yet another christmas-themed animated bullcrap that they pump out every year. But no! I was actually drawn in within about 5 minutes.
Okay, the plot is predictable and some of the plot holes are large enough to fit a truck through, but that's okay because it's focused around characters and character development, and the characters are really interesting. More than that, there's even hidden meaning in there about what holidays mean to kids and how adults perpetuate this meaning. Also note how there are little to no dirty innuendos anywhere to be found.
There are also a couple other reasons *cough cough* I like it but nevermind that!

Eh, might see it with my nephew, unless he watched it already...

I don't know about Lego movie but I know that Lego porn is a NO

I knew I wouldn't be the only one that used younger relatives as an excuse to watch kids movies.

My nephew is my ticket to watching all the awesome kids movies.

Without him I'd just be a pedophile in a movie theater.

Humm. I'm not one to criticise anyone's boner material, but are you super sure you're *not* that anyway?

A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest

It's pretty decent in terms of movies go. And yes, everything is made of lego.

Updated by anonymous

Okay, saw the movie yesterday. I liked it. It was good. Not the greatest film ever, or anything like that, but definitely worth a watch.

Updated by anonymous

I'm waiting for the inevitable Tinkertoy knockoff movie.
