Topic: Show Shippings

Posted under Off Topic

So I've noticed in the show that they started putting characters, who have been shipped, on the show next to each other; TwiDash and AppleRarity mainly (so I guess the writers do check in on some things on the internets). Just wondering if anyone else thought this way or wanted to share a different ship they've been seeing on the show. Of course this is just me looking into it too much cuz i haz no laifu.

On another note, I can only imagine the two ships mentioned above could only happen when AJ and RD have a bet against Twilight and Rarity, and they lose so Rainbow is Twilight's slave/maid/etc. and AppleJack is Rarity's slave/maid/etc. If anyone wants to write a fic like this, go wild, please.

Okay, so, I never got into MLP, but I do know a few people who do producing/writing that kinda thing. Also chatted to a few folks at Hasbro once, so...

I'd imagine they have to be very very careful about their fanservice. By now the bronies probably outnumber the 'legitimate' demographic, but all the same they can't make the show R-rated, not only because there are still lil girls watching, but Hasbro have probably researched enough to know that their fans are about as united as a coop of headless chickens. Siding with any of them would create a massive backlash from all the others.
They probably don't do enough research to know ship pairings. A) because it probably freaks them out and B) because they'd only pay attention if they had decided to do anything with that.
When they start having an unusual number of scenes alone together that might be a subtle nod to fan pairings. Otherwise, I think it's probably wishful thinking.

Why do people believe this nonsense?

People can convince themselves of anything, if it is what they *want* to believe. They want to feel important, that the show revolves around them instead of around little kids, and they see things like Derpy not as "little shoutouts" but rather as the tip of the iceberg into the true depth to the degree to which the show must revolve around them.

what no

Why do people keep insisting on this bullshit? They're FRIENDS. Of course they're going to be near each other. Notice how your "ships" are composed of characters that have have contrasting personalities. Twilight is the standard nerd trope, Rainbow the jock. Rarity's the sophisticated city lady, and Applejack's the gruff country bumpkin. Of course they're going to be placed with each other a lot. The personalities of the characters work off each other, and widen the range for comedic possibility (to a kid, a typical jock hanging out at a library could be funny).

It really annoys me when people do this. It's a KID'S show. Sure, it has a huge adult fanbase, but you have to remember that it will always cater to the children. There's still a moral after every episode, and the characters are relatively static. Just because they throw the adult fans a bone every 10 episodes doesn't mean they're "shipping" their characters or going to release "My Little Pony: TV M".

I never understood "shipping". I mean, everytime I read "Hey! Do you ship [x pony] with [y pony]?" I think "Ship? Where are they sending them to?" or "Why would I put two ponies in a box?"

That was my exact thought when I first heard the term, then I realized oh it means to send them off together to get married forever, then I realized it's just one character standing next to each other

We stand next to each other a lot. Does that mean we are a ship?

First heard the term ship, and I visualized putting the character on a ship and "ship" them somewhere.
