I'm curious what other people think of the site.

Just a regular art site imo

It's unfortunate that there's some amazing talent on that site, because 99.5% of it is terrible, even by art community standards. Much of it is thinly disguised porn, the moderation is a mess and it grows a little more corporate every time I see it.
It's a huge popularity contest (not that that's exclusive to DA) and I feel pretty embarrassed to have been really into it at once point.

If you're one of the 0.01% of the people who actually make amazing shit, Don't bother with DA. All the cool kids just have their own website! Or at least a nicely customized Tumblr.

DA however has a vast community. It's one of the easier way's to advertise yourself or your skills. I know when I was looking for a request to help me practice when I had no idea what to draw I went there. And my latest Luna pic came out of a request. (The pic is on here under my name if you want to see it)

I wasn't sure at the time if I was allowed to come onto these forums and ask if anyone had an mlp request, if I am please let me know so next time I might be able to ask some properly entertaining people that take up their mantle here.

As for self-promotion, the problem with DA is that it's too huge. A lil voice tends to get drowned out in a crowd. You got the right idea looking for a smaller community, but I don't think e6 is the right one to try. I'd think there must be a million MLP forums or whathaveyou where people would be falling over to make requests.

Well the problem with the MLP forums is everyone wants OC request. And I cannot stand looking at almost 99.999999999% of the OC's people make. Just no, your OC is not an all powerful alicorn dating all the princess's at the same time.

I refuse to draw OC's (With the exception of good quality Changeling OC's)

Secondary to that I hate the idea of accidentally posting to the wrong place, it's like walking into a classroom 45 minutes late and having everyone stare at you like you're stupid.

I have an account there, but I never use it. My account activity is mostly restricted to e621 and FA. I remember this one user whose name escapes me who thought it'd be funny to insult Keovi and call her all kinds of shitty names. I proceeded to call him out, and that started an onslaught of bullshit from that cocksucker. I was a lot younger back then, and I've learned to steer clear of shit like that. Believe it or not, there are more assholes on DA than on FA.

All in all, don't get involved with da. It's a fucking mess, if you want to draw ponies, go to a site dedicated to serving just that, you are probably going to have a better collection of artwork to look at, and more people there are going to be interested in your art.
Any site that is narrowcasted in a way such as to mlp art is going to have a smaller population than DA, but the concentration (murrlarity I like to call it) of people willing to view your art is going to be higher usually giving a higher number of average views per art submission to be a little higher on a narrowcasted site.

I really like DA, good and clean setup, lots of inspiring art, not a lot of the drama that FA has, but they don't host explicit content so that's that. I don't much browse there though because unlike e621, they have just about no reliable search function

I'm not so sure about the clean setup part. From time to time on certain pages the website can be a complete mess. Furthermore in my experience more people post tracing on that site then any other I've found.

I remember many days of chatroom fun in my youth... though it is indeed drama central and.very click oriented. If youre not popular, cool or talented nobody cares. If you are youre somebody.
