Topic: Post That May Not Meet Quality Standards

Posted under General

I've seen worse approved, and better not approved.
So, a bit of a toss up really.

I would delete it.

Looks too much like Ms Paint scribbles.

You deleted it the first time.
It seems FA is the only safe place for every furry artwork I do. Since all of it sucks, that is.

Starting artists typically don't have their artwork uploaded to e621 to begin with. Although we're continually getting more artists uploading to the site themselves (which we do want), the majority of artwork that's uploaded is still just whatever our users find interesting/good/hot enough to share with others. So the cards are stacked against starting artists by default, really, and that's how it's always been.

Of course it's easy to take it personally if a beginner artist uploads their work and it's removed for quality reasons, but again this is simply what the admins have been doing since the site was created. It's just more of a problem now because the e621-user "middle-man" is being skipped and artists are uploading directly. It's mostly still artwork that we wouldn't have kept on the site to begin with if it was uploaded by another user.

In short, some artists want e621 to work like other furry art sites where they can make a personal "gallery" of all their own stuff, and it's just simply not how e621 was originally intended or designed to work. The only "solution" to this (that I can think of) would be to no longer delete ANY artwork for quality reasons except for cases of severe JPG artifacts or blurry photos or such. And I don't think that's what most users would want.

Not saying we wouldn't LIKE to have the issue resolved, I'm just not sure how we would do it at the moment other than what I mentioned.

^this. Sucks, but it's the truth. It's a bit like asking the Corvette Museum to showcase the Malibu. It's not -quite- up to snuff, so it can't go here sadly.

Sorry to bump this, but would be this post qualified for deletion based on its quality?

Exactly this! ^

Dont take anything about deletion or talk of things not being good enough here too personal. We love upcoming artists because without new artists furry fandom will die. We need new artists like plants need water... the difference in the case here is that e6 is not a site aimed towards new and upcoming artists, its a place for the big dogs and high quality works. Places like deviant art and possibly fur affinity tend to embrace new artists and aid in advice from others on how to improve.

Again... no hard feelings to the artists still in training... we love you guys, you are the future after all!

4 years ago, leave it be.

Why should crap art that was posted years ago be exempt from consideration for quality reasons? That's a stupid reason. They're really poor quality pieces, so they should go.

2 reasons.
1: It's potentially punitive to uploaders who weren't actually doing anything wrong at the time, as it can reduce their upload limit.
2: Image quality is not a valid reason to request deletion of an image. Doing it here on the forums doesn't make it any more acceptable, just because you aren't technically flagging it.

Edit: To genjar's point, if an admin feels like doing it on their own, that's certainly their prerogative.
It is not our place as users to request, or demand that they be removed, or to hold them up as a complaint of why new images should have been kept.

Every so often when linked old pictures like that, we will delete them. If you ever feel that any post needs to be moderated again, just pm it to me and I'll take a look at it

We aren't going to actively seek out bad art from years ago and usually just leave it be. That stuff was posted during the old administration for the most part and they much much different quality standards
