Some images refuse to load no matter what.

Yup, known, but changing https to http doesn't work, just goes back to https for me.

Change the https to http on the direct link image, not the site (on the site it does redirect, on direct link it doesn't), i.e.
https://static1.e621.net/data/0a/a3/0aa31b251475ea98ff923f507b521bf6.jpg
to
http://static1.e621.net/data/0a/a3/0aa31b251475ea98ff923f507b521bf6.jpg
and it will let you see the image (in case it does not load).

Same. I'm on Chrome, maybe that's a factor.
