Topic: Joke Tags. When to add them and when to remove them.

Posted under General

So I recently noticed someone was removing lost_my_keys from a lot of fisting images. When I asked the person why, they said they didn't think the joke was relevant on those images, and the tag was overused.

For some joke tags it's obvious whether it applies or not. these_aren't_my_glasses for example is for images that display a very distinct and visually obvious phenomenon: cocks and balls over someone's eyes.

lost_my_keys is admittedly more subjective. Some people will think the joke applies, some people won't. The question is, if you don't think the joke applies, or it isn't funny, or it's overused, is it appropriate to remove the tag?

Does this also imply tags like

what_science_has_done
what
why
death_by_sno_sno
nightmare_fuel

and emoticon tags?

I think emoticon tags are reserved for when that emoticon actually appears in the image, but aside from that, yes those are the sort of joke tags I'm talking about.

Ah ok so the point of removing or adding would be what barrier exactly?

The point is, a lot of people really like joke tags, but some people really don't like them.

Since they're so subjective, people's opinions differ. One person may add them as he sees fit, but someone else might see that as spammy unfunny overuse. Another person may remove them as she sees fit, but someone else might see that as a prejudiced humorless vendetta.

I'm personally of the opinion that this person removing the lost_my_keys tags is going too far, and I want to add them back. But he might see this as tag spamming and remove them. And neither of us would be objectively right or wrong because the tags are so subjective.

Nobody wants a back-and-forth tag war, so there needs to be some policy on what to do when people that enjoy joke tags and the people that don't butt heads.

Oh. I already reported him, before reading this.
That's probably the best way to handle such disputes: just report it and let admins sort it out..

(I don't personally consider nightmare_fuel to be a joke tag, by the way. It's somewhat subjective, but it's currently the best tag we have for tagging disturbing stuff that doesn't fall under other tags such as gore, etc.)

But a public policy would also help stop the same thing from happening again in the future.

My thoughts are that more tags are generally better, so the policy should be weighted in favour of keeping a subjective tag. The acceptable reasons for removing a tag should be more limited than for adding one.

There is, unfortunately. They stay, regardless of how stupid or insipid or useless or forgotten they are. Some joke tags are fun, others should be gone, but no matter what they refuse to remove any of the bad tags.

Fist inside vagina, or ass = lost_my_keys
Easy.

If that were the the case, it'd be aliased with fisting. Generally, it should only be tagged if someone actually seems to be looking for something.

I wouldn't really call what_has_science_done or nightmare_fuel "Joke Tags". Even though the actual name of the former is a joke.

nightmare_fuel = anything that normal people might find disturbing either because of the presence of guru or because it's just plain weird

what_has_science_done = anything that is WAY too weird for most people to be able to think of

---

The real problem with the lost_my_keys tag is its redundancy. lost_my_keys implicates fisting, but fisting also implicates lost_my_keys. Under such a circumstance, lost_my_keys should be aliased to fisting.

That said, whether a tag should exist or not is NOT the decision of one user, and who isn't even a moderator at that. If a user believes a tag is redundant, they should send a request to have the tag aliased to something more suitable which will let the mods decide and aliasing will automatically remove redundant tags anyway.

Lost_my_keys is for fisting that is so far up the vagina/ass that it looks like you are trying to come out of the persons mouth.

bah, she's abrely in there past her wrist.

Also, that's the joke creator, and only image I know of involving that sort of thing that has been tagged with that tag. Annoying. If it actually involved fishing for something lost down there, whatever, it'd actually make sense... but as it is it's just another tag doing the same work of the proper tag. :/

I treat them as eastereggs, there is no reason for them be there except to amuse the observant.

We don't need a policy. They're few and far between, and merit a chuckle from time to time. Just dont go on mass deletion sprees without permission from the staff.

I tried to get it removed because it was a horribly obscure joke that only like two people knew of the origins of (it shouldn't be a species tag either, since it's referencing the Ripper species from the game series Metroid). Ripper was almost aliased to the stupid joke tag. -.-
