Topic: Couple Questions on Permission

Posted under General

Alright I haven't uploaded a lot of stuff yet, but I only saw a couple days ago that I should probably be uploading only with permission. I've been working both proactively and retroactively since then, but a couple of questions on the whole thing:

Asking permission from artists where English doesn't seem to be their first language?
I uploaded a couple from Kikurage (who seems to have quite a few already up there) and one from Nurinaki, but I don't know Japanese well enough to ask them for anything. Should I try and contact them, take down the posts, or just leave them up until something happens?

If the art was a commission, should you ask permission from the commissioner as well?

I'd just like to do this all as legally as possible.

I normally ask for permission when I don't see anything posted from an artist (you can even have them register here if you ask!). As for commissions, ask both the artist and the commissioner (unless they have a tumblr, in which case ask and let the artist post it publicly, so the commissioner may see it).

For artists that don't speak english, passing your questions over a translator might help you a bit. That or asking an user for help on what words to say and/or how to say it.

Other than that, I have no more suggestions... so... uh... happy uploading?

Alrighty, cool beans. My only problem is that the foreigners might not even know that their artwork is being posted here, if they even know this place exists.

I think you'd be surprised how many Japanese people know English.

And how many English speakers think they know Japanese.
