Topic: miagranes, needs some help

Posted under Off Topic

Ok so basically ive had this horrible condition since I was born. I was diagnosed at age 4, however nothing, and I do mean nothing besides imitrex and oxy- have made any impact on them.
I get these onslaughts at least once a week usually once a day.
Ive had pretty much every medicine and every test done on me with no recovery or diagnosis on why..
they are actually getting worse month by month, ive been bed ridden for 3 days now, during that time ive eaten very little ... probably lost 5lbs so far...
Anyone have any ideas that might help, starting to go insane from agony and the doctors cant help themselves outa a wet lapped bag.

Edit: actually no, I haven't tried acupuncuture or botox, probably will never try Botox (shudders)

If you've tried just about everything else, look for a reputable homeopathic doctor.

Edit: Naturopathic, not homeopathic

Otherwise maybe there's some helpful information/people at http://www.reddit.com/r/migraine/. Might be worth a shot to ask for help there. At least there you know you'd be directly asking people who suffer from them or treat them.

Wish I could help you out, however I usually only have a migraine about every six months. I just deal with it, throw up a few times, sleep, and that's that. Sounds rough, man. :/

Did the Botox thing a few weeks ago. Haven't had one since.

I recommend it.

Those doctors in India know things that western doctors are clueless about. I'm not recommending traveling there, but there are homeopaths that have studied out there.
I am aware I won't be changing anyone's opinion, but just because you (I don't mean halite specifically) don't believe, doesn't mean it can't help those whom western medicine has failed.

Dependence on belief = placebo.

Homeopathy is not the same thing as herbal and natural medicine.
Homeopathy is a pseudoscience invented by a German physician in the late 1700s.
It is a "Western Medicine", a bullshit western medicine.

Now if you're talking about looking into traditional herbal and natural medicines, that's not a pseudo science, at all.
Or a placebo.
It also isn't Homeopathy.

Ah, damnit. You're right. Seems I've been getting Naturopathic and Homeopathic confused.

Don't feel bad, a ton of people do.
TBH, the only reason I feel so strongly on the issue is that when I was a kid my mom believed in Homeopathy, still does really though she doesn't go to a homeopath anymore.
I was mis-diagnosed by a crap doctor with ADD, and given ritalin.
I was on ritalin for 3 or 4 years, with no real improvement.
After that, they take me to a homeopath, I get essentially sugar pills as per their standard.
On future visits, the "doctor" convinces my mom that I'm doing so much better, despite my protests that nothing has changed.
She still says it helped me to this day.
So frustrating, and she was getting ripped off the whole time.

Natural medicine can be a huge help for people.
Although if you don't know what you're doing you can easily get ripped off there too.
A lot of producers make sub-par herbal remedies, and things that look like the remedy you want, but aren't actually.

As an example, I got Pygeum from Puritan's Pride, it was the extract, 50 mg gels, very good quality, worked as it should.
I then got some of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Pygeum-500-Caps-Swanson-Premium/dp/B00068UBF0/
It's the bark, ground.
No accuracy in the dosage, it's not possible to measure the amount of active ingredient in the ground bark.
Tried it, it's junk, did nothing but upset my stomach.

I'm related to a Naturopathic doctor, so I shouldn't confuse them, I might get hurt.

Drink more water, if you think you may get a headache drink more water. Water, water, water I shit you not. You should keep a water bottle with you anytime you do anything because it'll help with dehydration/pain related migranes/hangovers.
Water always helps hangovers.

Actually they inject it into the back of the neck, close to the bottom of the skull... botox = botcholizim. One of the most leathal crap on earth.

Esme, I know this might sound belittling because of the simplicity of it, but it's not meant to be- Do you drink enough water? Dehydration is one of the leading causes of migraines amongst the people that suffer them I know, not including myself. Usually hydrating doesn't solve it in the short term (since the body takes time to fully recover from dehydration) but when I've helped my friend through a migraine-heavy period they typically tend not to have as many migraines for awhile after because I make sure they drink enough water during that time.

I don't know if this next part is true for the reason why it works for me, but it's what I was told- but ibuprofen (a derivative of propionic acid, sometimes marketted as advil) instead of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA or Aspirin) or paracetamol (Tylenol) seems to work to partially alleviate the symptoms because it has a vasodilation effect; I noticed that my migraines usually began with a vice-like feeling, and was recommended it when I described that symptom by a specialist my mother took me to see when I was younger (he was the one that told me about the vasodilation). Headaches always seem to be the reverse, like there's too much blood rushing through my head, so I need a vasoconstrictor for those times, and so take aspirin for headaches and ibuprofen for migraines. Note it doesn't make the migraine *go away*, like I wish it did, but it definitely makes it so I can move around and interact with the world instead of huddling in darkness for a few days until it goes away. Again, could be a placebo effect from when I was younger, but ibuprofen is known as a vasodilator, so it doesn't seem like it's that far off.

Hope it helps.

Every single substance in this universe is lethal, the only interesting thing is the dosage which is something a doctor can and will make sure that it is is the correct one.

The chances of that procedure killing you is significantly lower than the chance of a driver killing you on the way to the hospital.

Solution obvious.

Remove brain. Put it in a robot.
Be a party robot - be around a million years.

Botox -> bacteria from jellyfish that makes them all stingy and shit.

not if it's at a good place and you keep it clean... and I already have two piercings and one tattoo so I know where to go so that does not happen anyway

I've had a spinal tap before that was unbelievably and horrifyingly painful... so imagine it probably fifty times worse at least that's my take on it...

Botox relaxes the muscles and numbs, the entire point of the procedure is to remove pain.
And a spinal tap is a very big needle inserted into your spine to extract a small amount of fluid for diagnosis, cutting out part of cerebrospinal fluid is most definitely more painful than administering a needle with a painkiller.

Sometimes you should seriously just stop and check some facts before you open your mouth in public.

Ibuprofen
That's the shit when it comes to any pain.

And I have a bad headache. About to take some of those now.

autocorrect made this for mo basically every move I make hurst [\spoiler]

Probably not helpful for someone who's tried it all, but I have to stay hydrated, usually one bottle of water each day is enough, to avoid headaches. If I didn't make a conscious effort to stay hydrated, then I would probably get a nice headache around once every three weeks. When I do get headaches, I take a Tylenol pill or a cheaper, no-name branded acetaminophen pill. I've been going for the ones with caffeine in them too because they seem to be "faster acting." I also stop doing mentally stressful activities, take off my glasses, stop looking at screens (or at least reading from them), put a damp cloth to my head, and go to sleep early. If my condition is still bad, I can take a clonazepam (anti-anxiety prescription, use it for sleep as needed).

What kind of migraines do you have? Is it the full set with aphasia, auras, visual disturbances, Paresthesia? Is it located on one side of your brain? There was a period of time during which I had those kind of migraines once per month and most of the time I'd get an Ibuprofen to ease pain or a Relpax if it was really strong. It became scarce after puberty ended, though. Hopefully it might go away once you get older (If you're not 30 already I guess)
