Topic: Hey new admin/mods! What are your thoughts on post limits?

Posted under General

Hey guys. Thanks again; glad to have the site back.

So, as it stands now there's actually a few tiers of limits for how many posts someone can make in a day, 3 I think. The first for Anon, the second for registered users and the third for donors.

I'm a registered user, have been for a few years now, but I tried to upload a comic yesterday and discovered I can only upload 14 images at a time. Moreover, it looks like the images have to be approved before this limit goes back down. I can understand if approvals are a little slow right now, but this limit is frustrating me.

So are you in favor of a limit? What should it be? Do you think the tiers are a good idea?

Personally I understand the potential need for SOME limit, I just wish it could be a little higher than 14, especially for a registered user.

It's a lot higher than 14 if you post often. Mine's only 11 :)

I only have 66. And how do we reach contributor status?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe you have to either commission highquality art work or donate to e621's inkbunny in their donations thread. I would do it but I have no money to spare at the moment because colledge is expensive even with a scholarship.

The donation incentive was Privileged status, not Contributor, if I remember correctly. Also, they also put up a forum topic that was "Stuff is being transferred / etc, don't donate ATM". Not sure why they didn't sticky it, though.

I don't really know why Contributor+ accounts have a post limit :/ My posts don't need to be approved so it doesn't subtract from the limit...

They don't have a limit. I think you meant to say members and Privileged accounts.

20/20 vision. Regain it. Riversyde said that Contributors+ have a post limit. His last post was post #93746, which has bypassed the moderation queue. Do you know why it doesn't state who approved it? Because it wasn't approved, it bypassed the queue. This system is based off of Danbooru. I'm a regular there, and I noticed a long time ago that even though Contributors+ posts bypass the queue, it still shows a "limit". Since thier posts don't have to be approved, this limit just for show, and means nothing unless that user has their status degraded to Privileged or member status.

... You don't realize that's exactly what Riversyde just said?
:/

Can you read? He said that they have posting limits. They don't. Contributors+ can post as much as they want.

Ultima, he just said he doesn't understand why there is a "limit", which there is, if you look at his account. But since he doesn't have to go through moderation, it just doesn't matter.

That's exactly what I was saying. The only reason that they see the "limit" is because going back through the site design and coding it to dissapear for users of a certain level would be a fruitless waste of time.

I kinda like the concept of the limit. keeps people from registering and spamming the site with massive amounts of utter crap. If you want to contribute, but run into the limit, just save the other images in a folder somewhere and wait til the next day.

The "formula," as I understand it, for limit, is pretty reasonable: 10 + (UPLOAD#/10)... as long as you don't get (I assume) any deleted images, or other 'negative marks' (I don't know what they are... the 'rest' of the formula is - (0 / 4) - 0 = LIMIT ... I don't know what those 0's represent :P )

The more you upload, the fewer 'oopses' you make, the more you can upload. Pretty reasonable, imho :D

First zero is deleted posts, second is number posted today.

Your limit rises by 1 with every 10 approved images, and it falls by one with every 4 deletions.

Which is also fun because when your full up, you won't be able to post any more until a mod approves it.. so if you post only crap... You got ten posts and your gone. :)

I think I was running into problems because:

a. I've only uploaded a bit in the past and
b. mods were a little slow to approve.

Again, I think some limit is obviously needed to deal with spammers and trolls, but the current system seems kind of complex. Why not just say

1. Only registered users can upload
2. In the first month, only x images a day (10? 20?)
3. Unlimited after

Registration has to be manually approved anyway, doesn't it? So it's not like a bunch of channers can suddenly hop on and flood the site.

all this can be circumvented by a vary patient troll...

But so can any method. A troll could go so far as to enter the community and contribute, gain trust, stay with the site for a few years, become a mod, and then wreak havoc.
