well, it's not so much 'don't reply to old threads' as it is "If you don't have anything relevant and important to add to an old thread, don't reply to it. I'd seen the old post, yet still thought when I saw it at first, that it was a new thread, or perhaps, that there was some new and ground breaking information to be had... rather then a 'lol' statement.

It's more an annoyance--and speaking from prior experience, it's even worse when you're an admin or mod of some sort, because you go "oh god, what now?" especially if it's a multipage thread ("how did 3 pages get posted in the 6 hours I was asleep?")...

generally speaking, it's considered poor taste to bump something just for a punchline, if you must do it, have something important or relevant to add, or even ask. but in most cases, it's better to start a new thread (unless it's a sortf of thing where "I have a question about this topic on hand here that hasn't been answered")...

it's a little more 'forgiving' on websites where the goal is lol or chat, or socializaion, but from what I've seen, that isn't the case here with these forums.
