Topic: Rules Clarification

Posted under General

With regards to the Avoid Posting list, there ARE exceptions.

If you've commissioned a work and want to post it, that's fine.
Fanworks are also allowed. If an artist on the AP list drew a pokémon or a digimon or something like that, it's fair game to be uploaded.

There's no need to flag stuff if it falls under the exceptions.

Thanks!

I think you should make the DNP list ease to see/notice by new users. Or make them read it after they register.

One more off topic question: When will Esix2.2.0 be launched?

Further investigation reveals that NeoGeen and Thaily are also artists. =F

What about artists collaborations ?

I've noticed Jollyjack on the DNP, but I see a whole bunch of his art. Is he excluded?

It says "NON-COMMERCIAL WORKS ONLY"

I think you should make the rules about the site and posting and such; on a page that to register they have to read, and in the text is a secret hidden word or phrase that they have to click on in order to advance to the next page in the registering process. just to clarify the rules to new users.

Rules shouldn't be something that's hidden, or forced down users throats.. let them be visible, but don't drive off users by making them work to hard :(

Honestly, anyone that's too lazy to follow some simple instructions in order to register for the site, E621 would probably be better off without in my opinion.

For example, the people that sign up and within a week post a load of DNP images and leave creepy comments all over the place.

The first thing I did after I registered was look for a DNP list, and anyone 'of age' with a decent amount of common sense would be able to figure out that this kind of site would have such a list. Same deal with creepy comments, no one wants to see that crap, keep it to yourselves.

Some people will spend time on looking for that secret word (tab ftw?) instead of reading rules.

Do we even have that many rules?

1. Don't vandalize tags

2. Tag what you see in the image as completely as you can

3. Make an effort to post quality, finished, non-repost images. Avoid crap-quality things like tiny images, grainy images, motivational poster memes, SL screenshots, etc. Off-topic images and their fallout are subject to the whims of whatever mod sees them first.

4. Tag your images

5. Make sure to tag young/loli/shota/cub-looking images as such for legal reasons

6. Avoid posting things on the avoid posting list. Do not post Sexyfur

7. If you have any issues or questions, PM a mod or use the email on the main page.

8. If you want an image removed, and are the copyright holder, politely ask or flag for deletion and provide some minimal level of proof you are the copyright holder

9. Use the deletion queue for flagging duplicate images (with link to original), or avoid posting violations, or because you are copyright holder, and not to enforce personal tastes.

10. Don't be a creepy weird creep creepster

12. Don't start drama or otherwise be an obnoxious troll

13. Don't backseat mod

14. Don't post RL porn, and also don't post RL images depicting bestiality, CP, or other illegal material

15. Don't post malicious files

That's it, unless I'm forgetting something obvious. These are all common sense to me, I dunno. Tag your shit, don't be stupid, maintain higher standards and quality. Hell, half of them aren't even hard and fast rules, they're just guidelines. Are they really so arcane?

But still, how can some one obey them, if he does not know them?

By being at least a half-decent person, and by putting a bare minimum of forethought into things before doing them? The point is they're not stuff that would need to be specifically hunted down and memorized to obey, they're all basically obvious things. They can pretty much all be summarized as:

- Don't be an ass to others
- Keep posts on-topic
- Don't make useless/pointless posts
- Don't attract angry lawyers

This is pretty much <i>basic common knowledge</i> for anyone, anywhere, on any sort of internet community...

Make an effort to post quality, finished, non-repost images.

Does this mean only the very final version should be posted, or does it just stand against half-sketched or half-coloured pictures? Are finished ink stages discouraged if a colour is (Soon to be) done?

Updated by anonymous

If a sketch is the only version that exists, go for it. Likewise if only the line art version exists. The idea here is that if there's multiple versions of the image, post the most 'complete', highest quality, largest version of the image possible.

Also, it means don't post thumbnails, super low quality JPGs and MSpaints and like, photographs of a pencil drawing because your scanner is broken, etc. etc. Basically, don't post images that show an obvious lack of care or effort in the part of both the poster, and the original artist.

I usually post the sketch/lineart even if I know the finished version will be done soon, but I keep that post in mind and parent/delete it when the finished version gets uploaded later.

I have had a line art picture deleted because it "was not complete."

The only version of it as it stands is the version I have already posted. I have not CG colored it yet. But within the deletion stated that it "was not complete."

Can I please get a verification of the rule over this? I would like to post the image again and edit it with the colored version once completed. But as it stands I can not do that.

If the image isn't done yet, save posting it until it is done. e621 is only supposed to hold the final version of things, so that way there isn't millions of crisscrossing lines.

I posted the two Narse images that I did because I knew that they were not going to be completed, and asked Narse for permission to post them before doing so. In that sense, the ones I posted are the "final versions" of the pictures.

However, you won't find me doing this very often, if ever again, so I wouldn't recommend others following my example in this particular case. We don't want to flood e621 with uncompleted work.

I guess the real question here is what defines a piece of art as "completed". My best recommendation is to simply avoid posting unfinished pictures if you KNOW that the art will be completed in the near future. If we do receive a finished version of a picture that we already have a WIP copy of, I'd say that we need to delete the WIP copy (this excludes FINISHED line-art).

In all honesty, I'll probably turn a blind-eye to the occasional incomplete image, unless it really starts to become a problem. I just highly suggest that you stick with uploading finished pieces.
