We just passed 99,000 images in the gallery, and I'm looking for ideas for something fun to do to celebrate the 100,000 image milestone.

Any ideas?

just keep working on the site as normal, we don't need anything crazy interrupting the development cycle

I actually like this best. I go straight to the forums myself, but I think a front page and maybe a color theme swap might be fun. Or just happy letters up in the 'site notification' area up top. You know. where it says "new ads up on the site". There. :D

Additionally. maybe we can have a celebratry fan art threat or something... which really comes down to, draw the mascot and/or draw porn and say "happy 100,000th, e621" on it. :) ... this COULD have the extra bonus of getting a little more traffic over here as artists post on furaffinity about it all.

well, I suggested a color swap too... but I was thinking a short term sort of thing designed to go "oh hey, what's that?" but I couldn't think of a good color to suggest. A tiling background would add a whole lot of server load, AND would detract from the very thing being celebrated--the images.

maybe a thin little 'happy post-day banner that doesn't add much to the the 'height' of the screen.

Oh, the font colors could be changes up to 'celebration' colors or something. I dunno. I think the easiest idea is just the 'news text' and the front page graphic. :)

While I partly agree with the concept :) I can't really imagine that that's a good "hey, lotsa posts, YAAAAAY!" theme.... because I think one of the 'important' things about us is that we do try to respect the artist's rights/opinions when they differ from us.. and something like that is kinda akin to a big 'fug you' to someone who might be on the edge on how they feel about this sort of thing. Plus, again, not really 'yay, lots of posts' appropriate. (To me, it seems like going "HAPPY BIRTHDAY! We're having a party! I know you like drawing, so we're taking you to the pencil factory for a tour!" "Thanks, I--wait, what?")

That phrase is a tad bit pretentious. And like SnowWolf said, it could easily be taken as an insult byt the "artists" who don't like their work spread around here.

Well, it's not that I dislike the quite (though my interpretation of the quote IS different--speaking as a slave to my art) I just don't know that it's appropriate for a posting milestone. I think something a little more straightforward like, I dunno "We're celebrating our 100,00th post" would do..

or if we really want a fancy quote.. hmm...

So far I'm liking the idea to do a Google Doodle for a week or something celebrating the 100,000 images.

I'm very tempted to do the 'pomp and circumstance' music on the main page, as clearly this is a very important milestone in porn. (it might irritate the fuck out of everyone, though).

I'll talk to Narse and see what he can come up with. Would anyone be incredibly hurt if we just made up another mascot?

If anyone gets butthurt, it would likely be the fans of the mascots who have yet to be implemented.

*I* wouldn't care of there was a new mascot made. The existing ones are nice, but very few of them excited me. Sides, wasn't there some controversy about it and stuff? The other mascots can still be around, but, but in ways like wikipe-tan, or various OS-tans.. er.. sort of. but not. I don't know what i'm saying. yay fanart? *hides*

Even if they were, they should remind themselves that the site wouldn't even exist right now if it weren't for you. They should also remember that just because the old administration said/did something doesn't mean that the new administration feels the same way.

If the voting of the mascots had remained public, I could sympathize more with using the one(s) that people voted on the most. But since the decision for a mascot ended up being made by the old administration, I don't see why we should be expected to honor it even if we disagreed with it.

Knowing Narse, it'll likely be something lizardy and scaley. I hope he comes up with something a bit different from his usual aesthetics.

I'm gonna have to keep the post count back a little artificially until I get home tomorrow, so don't be crying foul if the post count drops by like 50-100 when you're not looking. I want the art to go up when it really shows 100k. :D

There's two of those hexagon-cat-things, a boy and a girl. Maybe we should make them a mascot duo to represent the gender-neutral nature of the community?
Narse's creation, whatever it may be, can stick along as well. Maybe even that blue lizard thing that DarkDoomer made. Everybody wins!

I would still appreciate a male and a female mascot as well. It might not be possible to give a Narse a double workload right now, or very cool to spring it on him, but maybe we can work out a duo in the future.
