Topic: So how does one go about a new tag?

Posted under General

Suppose you found something you'd like to help others tag stuff by. It's not already on the list, it's different enough to be significant, you even have a decent enough name.

But the question is, how? Are you supposed to just go on a tagging spree and hope people like it? Is there some submission/discussion/whatever process?

Updated

maybe mention it on forums, submit possible implications, or just start adding it yourself. probably would save time to use the first two options before the third in some situations though

its found under site map. i'll give you an example: say i recommended an implication renamon > digimon. if approved, every image tagged "renamon" will automatically be tagged "digimon" also

Ahh, I see, thank you.

And... probably none, I figure. Hm. I'll get back to you.

luvdaporn is correct. Implications and aliases are very useful... here's a short explaination of them:

Iplication - If there is a 'skirt', then it implies that there is 'clothing' in the picture.

Aliases - 'GSD' is a 'German_Shephard_Dog', but there are posts with either or both of these tags. We'll consolidate them under 'German_Shephard_Dog' because it's a loteasier to understand then an acronym. Also, many people misspell and type 'German_sheperd_dog' or 'German_shepard_dog', so we'll alias those to the correct spelling also. However, 'white_german_shephard_dog' is worth having a separate tag for, as it's a unique appearance. (However, I would support an implication that all posts with 'white_german_shepherd_dog' should also have 'german_shepherd_dog' on them)...

However, some people thing that a 'german_shepherd_dog' should be tagged as 'Alsatian' because that is what they know them to be and think that it's easier to type. So they bring it up on the forums, and people discuss the pros and cons of it.

however, this is kind of a side tangent....

*ahem*

thank you for wanting to help tag!

First step is to make sure it's not already on the list... the best way is to click on 'tags' at the top of your screen, and search for something like what you might think that the tag is close to. For example, when I was researching my post, I searched for: *german_shep*

You may need to try a few search terms.. but once you're pretty sure there isn't a tag already, just start tagging. Find as many images that apply, and start tagging it on. Bonus points if you find a few extra tags to add on to each picture too. ;)

Don't mention it on the forums, in the hope that people will start tagging for you, and implications/aliases won't work unless it's somethingpretty straight forward. the thing about Implications and aliases is that they must ALWAYS apply. (Skirts are ALWAYS clothing, German shephards are ALWAYS canine, Sheperd is ALWAYS a mispelling. Buttplugs do NOT always imply anal penetration, leaves do NOT always imply trees, Apples do NOT always imply fruit (pictures of apples, apple tattoos, apple computers...)...

So.. TL;DR - just start tagging. :) if you have serious doubt about it, mention what it is here and let people chat about it. if it's univerally hated, we can remove it later.

As far as I checked - decently thoroughly, yet probably not enough yet - the thing I have in mind doesn't show up anywhere in tags. At least yet.

Well then, time to start seeking out pictures to tag, then getting to work.

Worst come to worst, we can remove it later. Good approach.
