Topic: Translation etiquette and locks?

Posted under General

Hey, there's a manga pool here on e621 that I've contributed to, and I'd like to translate it. However, I am a novice at japanese.

Should I give the translation my best shot? Or should I hold off, because you don't want amateur translations that may or may not be gibberish?

Incidentally, the first page of the manga, post #15522, appears to be locked -- I can't add any notes to it. Could a mod unlock that picture, or is there some reason why it's impossible to annotate?

The pages of the manga are also out of order, but that's a minor concern. One step at a time.

Any quality translation is welcome, as long as it's a candid attempt at interpreting the text and not just a practical joke.

If someone with a better understanding of the original language comes along they're free to fix any mistakes you've made. Until then it's nice to have at least some idea of what's going on.
