So I entered e621 today and was greeted by an unusual sight - there seemed to be a slightly tubby naked male armadillo on the front page, a smoldering come-hither look on his face as he thrust his all but naked body at me.
Perturbed, I decided to investigate further. Upon visiting the forums it soon became clear to me that this fellow had in fact become the sites mascot - which, now that I think about it, believe to have been a simply marvelous decision!
There are several reasons why I think he makes for a great mascot: Firstly, I find that the soft shading and sketchy, ambiguous edges used to draw the character really compliment the clean cut, hard edged minimalist style that perpetuates the rest of the site. So too do the myriad colors used on the character compliment the rest of the site - I find that his;
- light beige-brown underbody
- darker grey-brown 'over'body
- pink nose + tongue + inner ears
- baby-blue eyes
- dark black claws
- Dark green + strong red party hat (with very light turquoise head strap)
- and not-quite-red banner in particular really mesh with a navy + dark blue, yellow and white color scheme.
Finally I think that his unambiguously male gender, softcore pornographic stance (I found to my pleasure that in one iteration his throbbing manhood had been entirely exposed) and beer-belly body make him highly appealing to all of the diverse range of people that visit e621!
As a heterosexual male I am delighted that this change was made to the main page, and fully support the adoption of such a universally appealing (and representative!) mascot.
