Topic: New IRC Server, New Web Client

Posted under General

In a little bit here, might be a few days, might be a few weeks, I don't know, we're going to be transferring our IRC channel back to FurNet. Also, we'll be using a new web client for it (PJIRC), since FurNet doesn't allow Mibbit.

For those of you who like to do things ahead of time, you can join the new channel, #e621, on irc.furnet.org.

In the meantime, I'd like to get some feedback on the look of the new client, since I'm not going to pretend that what I think looks good looks good to everyone else. You can see it here, please if you have any suggestions or improvements, tell me:

Oh and one more thing, the channel shown in that client is NOT the channel we're moving to, it's on an empty IRC network I set up to test the client.

And if a box pops up asking to block potentially unsafe components, hit "No".

Any reason for the move? Was the reason why we moved in the first place because FurNet didn't allow Mibbit?

The reason for the move is to get on a furry IRC network. This not only makes it more convenient for e621 users that are already on furnet, but also can help attract new users that would like to hang out in the IRC channel without having to go through the hassle of joining an entirely different network.

And Furnet does not allow Mibbit, no, but that doesn't mean they don't allow web-based IRC clients at all. Our new client does have to be approved by them first though, which yeah is a pain in the ass, but will just be a one-time thing.
